Routine, Routine, Routine! The start of the school year is a great time to set up new routines at home. Routines help keep consistency in your home environment and are helpful when transiting from often unscheduled summer holidays. Here are some suggestions for setting up a routine in your home:

Try to keep morning time, meal times, bed time routines consistent and be mindful of the developmental age of your child – keep steps simple and easy to follow.

Be specific. For example, instruct your child to “brush your teeth, put on your pajamas, and find a book to read” is more clear than, “get ready for bed”.

Visuals help a child complete a routine independently. Visuals can be pictures, drawings, or even words for older children.

Build choice into schedules. This builds in motivation and makes following a routine fun! Alternating between indoor play and outdoor can keep things moving smoothly and provides ample movement

opportunities. Routines at home provide predictability and comfort for your child.

Health Concerns Please contact your child’s teacher

if there are any serious health concerns we should be aware of.

The entire staff needs to be notified and prepared for any potential

emergency.

Soup Haven Lunches

The Soup Haven is a wonderful program that provides bagged lunches to children who cannot

receive this at home. Anyone involved is asked to contribute either time (at the Soup Haven ) or pay a

small fee of $20.00 for the year to ensure the program’s survival.

Dear parents/guardians, It is influenza season once again! Did you know that children are one of the most at risk groups for picking up the influenza virus? Influ-enza is easily spread by coughing, sneezing or direct contact with nasal and throat secretions. You need to protect your child from the in-fluenza virus every year! This vaccine is free and recommended for all ages. The influenza vaccine is the most effective in healthy children and young persons. By immunizing as many children as possible, not only do we protect children themselves, we also create a protective cocoon around our elderly and those with chronic diseases who are equally or more at risk but in whom the vaccine is less effective than in children. Please consult your local paper for dates and locations of various flu clinics or visit our website (www.sunrisehealthregion.sk.ca). Help us keep you, your children, and our community healthy. Thank you. Your local Public Health Office
