BLANDFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL TERM 4, WEEK 8 30th November 2016 Principal’s Message We had our last P & C meeting for the year last Monday and I left feeling grateful at what a supportive group of parents we have at our school. The work that the P & C has done this year for our students and the community has been outstanding. Starting out with a brilliantly run Horse Sports and continuing through the year with many community events and finishing off with the Beersheba Commemoration Day lunch, our small committed group has done the work of many more than our numbers suggest. Congratulations to everyone for their hard work and thank you to our new president, Peter Crowe who has carried on the fine work of our previous president Gail Brooks. It has been a pleasure to work with you all. I am looking forward to a productive 2017. Rel Principal Glen Kite Cheep, Cheep Mrs Cooper has been at it again and this time we have chicks! 3 – 6 Writing Students have been writing interesting short pieces on emotions and using metaphor to describe. Jarna wrote the following. Luke was scared. Not the kind of scared when you are in hospital. Not the scared you feel when you fall from your horse. Not even the scared when you get swept away in the river. But the shiver in your spine kind of scared. The kind of scared you get when you feel sick. The kind of scared when tears fall down your cheeks. The scared when all you want to do is run. Luke was about to ride for ‘8 seconds’. Brady wrote a poem about the beach. What is … the beach? The beach is a golden curved banana getting eaten away slowly. It is an aqua ball on the edge of the dead grass. It is a tub of water getting tipped on dull yellow paper. It is a ripe mango sitting on the edge of a blue fruit bowl. It is a curved piece of cut rockmelon on the edge of the full sink. I think you will agree that this is some mighty fine writing. There were plenty more just like these! BLANDFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL TERM 4, WEEK 8 30th November 2016

Presentation Night Date: 9 December Time: 6.30pm Where: Blandford Public School All students will be performing. Santa will be there too. Please bring along a plate or two to share. Last Day of School As in the past we will be spending the last day of school down at Wilson Memorial Park. The P & C will be supplying a sausage sizzle for children and families. Presentation Night Costumes Rehearsals are underway for our annual school performance. As in previous years the school organises the costumes. This year the primary girls are already set. Fantastic work girls! The primary boys need cut-off jeans or board shorts and Hawaiian shirt, short sleeve shirt or singlet. I have most of the costumes for the infants’ girls but if they have their own black tights or black t-shirts they can bring them in. Thank you Mrs Talty for sewing the little girls’ skirts. I am still looking for a long sleeve or red t-shirt and super hero costumes for the infants’ boys. Fishing scene boys will also need a bucket hat or other type of fishing hat and a small tackle box or bag. I will make the rods with them. WE’RE EXCITED!

Book Muster This time of year in the library all books are to be returned. This year has been a great reading year with most students borrowing weekly and being engaged in what they are reading. Ask your child what their favourite read was for the year. They have so many to choose from as both classes have had a diverse range of reading activities throughout the year. We have purchased over sixty books this year thanks to your support for our Book Fair and Book Club. I would also like to thank Tracey Speck and Belinda Teague for finding the time to organise the monthly book club. Don’t forget to keep reading in the holidays. Mrs Coffey Murrurundi Community Carols Night Blandford students will be joining Murrurundi Public School and Murrurundi Preschool at the carols night. Students will be singing three carols. We hope you can join us there.

A wonderful time was had by all. Thank you to our fabulous bus driver Norm and the helpful parents that came along. Thank you also to the Blandford P & C who donated $3000.00, subsidising the trip significantly. A few photos here, more on the web.

BLANDFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL TERM 4, WEEK 8 30th November 2016

Hospital, Murravale and Church Service This day out is on Wednesday 14th December and will begin at the Hospital at 10am. From there we go to Murravale at about 11am. Next we are off to St Paul’s Anglican Church for our Christmas church service with Mrs Rowarth at 12.15pm. Parents are invited to attend this service. Families are asked to send in a gift which we give to residents at the hospital and Murravale. We need approximately 30 gifts so I would really appreciate it if some families could send along 2 gifts. If you could wrap your present and then label it as ‘male’, ‘female’ or ‘either’ I would be grateful. I would like gifts in by Tuesday, 13th December if possible as that gives me time to match your child/children with a present and a resident. Missing in Action These readers have gone AWOL from the K-2 room. Please mount a search-and-find mission in bedrooms, vehicles, bookshelves and random hidey-holes.
