As a staff we are connuing our learning around strategies and structures of effecve classrooms, with common rounes and norms and teaching pracces. At this week’s staff meeng, the staff will be presented with a co-teaching model that has been adopted successfully in other schools. While this model has its strengths, all models should be adapted to suit the needs and strengths of the team using it. For the first me, the staff will have ownership of the school’s plan for the future. We will work together to modify the model and begin to streamline and sequence the learning and achievement indicators across the school. We are working with Helen Bowyer, an educaonal consultant, who is leading our thinking and conversaon each week around creang construcve classrooms through conversaons based on research and professional reading, dialogue and planning. Why are we working the way we are? Why is every Catholic school in this diocese constantly challenging creave and crical thinking? Because Pedagogy is our core business in learning. Research drives our pracce. It tells us that no one learns in isolaon. By working to- gether in a physical, intellectual, emoonal and social environment we make a signifi- cant difference to student achievement and well-being. By working together as a learning community that is student centred, as opposed to teacher centred, we complement our Vision and Mission, i.e. Faith, Care, Service and Stewardship because we explicitly teach our students about relaonships, collabora- on, thinking, inquiring, decision making, respect and sharing. We create a democrac community where risk taking and nurturing go hand in hand. This focus will connue throughout the year. We have dedicated every second staff meeng to building a strong professional body open to consolidated relaonships, support and challenge. We are excited about the quality of learning that will be reflected in our classrooms and in our student results. I will keep you updated on progress throughout the year. Our staff is very posive about our immediate and long term future in learning and teaching. CSO Grants We have been fortunate enough to receive several grants from the CSO at the end of last term. These include a grant to be spent on classroom furniture through the com- pany Bizfurn. We have allocated these funds equally to grades 3-6 to purchase appro- priate items of furniture for their learning space. A separate grant has also been received from the CSO to spend on funding programs and resources. The execuve team are working together to finalise some new and excing iniaves that you will soon see implemented into our school. Michael Morrell Principal (Acng)

Teaching & Learning

A very exciting start to the term around the work done on the pupil free day with teachers, teacher’s aides and office staff. As a staff we are continuing our learning around strategies and structures of effective classrooms, with common routines and norms and teaching practices. At this week’s staff meeting, the staff will be presented with a co-teaching model that has been adopted successfully in other schools. While this model has its strengths, all models should be adapted to suit the needs and strengths of the team using it. For the first time, the staff will have ownership of the school’s plan for the future. We will work together to modify the model and begin to streamline and sequence the learning and achievement indicators across the school. We are working with Helen Bowyer, an educational consultant, who is leading our thinking and conversation each week around creating constructive classrooms through conversations based on research and professional reading, dialogue and planning. Why are we working the way we are? Why is every Catholic school in this diocese constantly challenging creative and critical thinking? Because Pedagogy is our core business in learning. Research drives our practice. It tells us that no one learns in isolation. By working to-gether in a physical, intellectual, emotional and social environment we make a signifi-cant difference to student achievement and well-being. By working together as a learning community that is student centred, as opposed to teacher centred, we complement our Vision and Mission, i.e. Faith, Care, Service and Stewardship because we explicitly teach our students about relationships, collabora-tion, thinking, inquiring, decision making, respect and sharing. We create a democratic community where risk taking and nurturing go hand in hand. This focus will continue throughout the year. We have dedicated every second staff meeting to building a strong professional body open to consolidated relationships, support and challenge. We are excited about the quality of learning that will be reflected in our classrooms and in our student results. I will keep you updated on progress throughout the year. Our staff is very positive about our immediate and long term future in learning and teaching.

CSO Grants

We have been fortunate enough to receive several grants from the CSO at the end of last term. These include a grant to be spent on classroom furniture through the com-pany Bizfurn. We have allocated these funds equally to grades 3-6 to purchase appro-priate items of furniture for their learning space. A separate grant has also been received from the CSO to spend on funding programs and resources. The executive team are working together to finalise some new and exciting initiatives that you will soon see implemented into our school. Michael Morrell

General Information

Singing Coachin g by Sally Hill ½ hour lessons Mondays during school hours. Confidence and self-esteem build-ing skills. All song, vocal/backing/lyrics supplied. Phone Sally on 0431 443 249.

Canteen If families could please keep separate all money

for siblings in lunch bags. It gets quite confusing

when the lunch orders are

sent up in class buckets to

keep tally as who has paid

for what.

Thanks in advance,

Nancy.

School Fees The 2016 School Fees are now overdue. Statements have been

either emailed or posted to families in the last two weeks. If

you have not paid your fees, or are experiencing financial diffi-

culties, you are encouraged to act immediately, by contacting

the office on 6964 2888, to make a confidential appointment

with the Principal and the Snr School Support Officer to make

payment arrangements. This will avoid any undue stress at the

end of the year.

If you have not received a statement, please check your “spam” folder in your email inbox, and/or con-

tact the office and confirm your email and postal addresses. It is the preference of the school that all

Fee Payers receive invoices and statements by a secure/private email address.

Your continued co-operation in supporting your children’s school, is very much appreciated.

Mrs Christine Culla Snr School Support Officer

Extend - After School Care—Please help us save Extend Our contract with Extend has currently expired and we are at risk of losing this service due to dwin-dling numbers. For the service to be viable our school would need on average 15 children to attend per day. Please note that your child/children do not need to be booked in for an entire week with Extend, attendance can be requested for single days.

Extend has provided after school care at our school, including holiday programs for the past four years. The care sessions take place on the school grounds from the end of the school day until 6:00pm. During this time the children enjoy a wide variety of activities and games led by a team leader, with each child also provided with a healthy after-noon tea.

Extend have agreed to continue providing their service to our school until the end of Term Three despite the lack of num-

bers. For after school care to continue in Term Four our school would need to increase its numbers to average at least 12

students per day with the possibility of the Catholic Schools Office subsidising the program until the end of the year. For

Extend to renew their contract with us in 2017 our school would need to maintain numbers of 15 or we will no longer have

this service at our school.

Please inquire in the office if you would be interested in sending your children to after school care with Extend. Information

is also available on our homepage with running times and costs. Please follow the link on the left hand side of the page.

Sports News

Cross Country – Congratulations go to Pearson Kasawaya who represented MacKillop at the NSW PSSA Cross Country in Sydney last Friday. Pearson ran over 2000m in the 10 year boys section and ended in 31st place.

A great achievement in strong competition.

Athletics – The MIA Athletics Carnival was held last Thursday and we were blessed with the

weather on the day.

Our whole team performed well and once again many parents and teachers helped make

the day go smoothly.

We have around 30 students who have been selected to attend the Diocesan Carnival in

Albury on Friday August 5th.

Four students , Ava Kelly , Alex Parisotto , Mason Rosengreen and Mason Salvestro all won

their respective Age Championships under trying conditions.

We congratulate all the students who competed at the MIA Carnival and who are attending the Diocesan Carnival in Albury.

Catholic Basketball Carnival – Students who were given notes on the Catholic Basketball carnival must return them by tomor-

row so we can start organization.

Trent Barrett Shield - Mr Curry is finalizing the Trent Barrett (Rugby League Boys) and League Tag Girls. We will have more

information soon.

From the P&F Committee P&F Email Address

The P&F Committee have created a brand new email address. Please email us at [email protected] for any enquiries

about P&F activities and any correspondence.

Year One Thank You Letter

Year One students and teachers sent a 'Thank You' letter to the P&F and the St Pat's Parent Community for the new

class readers they received with our financial assistance. What a beautiful gesture and such a beautiful letter!

Father's Day Gift Stall

Following the success of our Mother's Day Stall in May we would also like to extend the gift-giving to our much-

loved and celebrated 'Dads' for Father's Day in September. As before, students will be able to purchase a gift for

their Dad here at school at a cost of $5. A flyer will be sent home next week. However, once again we are asking

you to go through your cupboards at home for any unused, unopened items, that are still in-date, that Dads might

like. This may be boxes of chocolates, biscuits, aftershave/colognes, fishing lures/equipment, golf balls, golf tees,

footy memorabilia, gardening equipment, coffee mugs... the list goes on. Please start having a look at what you

might have to send in to school. Otherwise if you wouldn't mind purchasing a gift at a cost of $5 to donate to our

stall, it would be much appreciated. We will start collecting items in Week 3. Stay posted!

Clothing Pool

If you have any uniform items to donate to the clothing pool, please drop them in at the front office. Upcoming

opening dates and times for the Clothing Pool for Term 3 are as follows: Open 3:15pm-3.45pm on Friday 26th Au-

gust and Friday 23rd September. Please see the front office if you need access to the clothing pool outside these

times.

Save the Date for our Upcoming Trivia Night

The P&F will be holding a School Trivia Night in the Father O'Dea Hall on Saturday 20th August. Tickets are available

at trybooking.com/MJMC. Tables of 8 – 10 will be able to be booked at a cost of $15 per head. If you cannot fill a

whole table, we can match you up with others to form one or contact Sonia Casanova on 0414673916. All are wel-

come; invite your family and friends.

AWESOME YEAR 3 Term 2 was a busy one for Year 3. After many weeks of preparation during Religion lessons, the children

eagerly received their First Holy Communion during the weekend of June 18th/19th. The masses were very

special and we thank Mr Morrell, Father Grace and Father Christian for their assistance during this special

time.

In Term 2 during Visual Arts the children stepped into the shoes of the French artist Edgas Degas and

sketched a variety of artworks from ballerinas to horses. Students also made their own bike masterpieces

using a variety of media. That was lots of fun!

Term Three promises to be another busy term with the Centenary of Griffith happening very soon as well

as the visit by the renowned author Michael Salmon.
