Permanent Appointments

Following the promotion of Mrs. Edwards to Assistant Principal last term a teacher vacancy was raised with HR. This role was filled using a list of eligible candidates from an earlier panel this year and I am delighted to welcome Mrs. Melissa Newman to the UPS team in the position of permanent classroom teacher. Mrs. Newman comes to UPS with an incredible depth of experience from her role as classroom teacher at Mt Kembla PS and I’m sure you will join me in welcoming her when she commences next year.

Director of Educational Leadership, Mr. Bill Field has commenced the process to appoint a substantive Principal for commencement in 2020. The position was advertised last week and should see the announcement of leadership for the school made in the final week of the term. We will continue to update information around this appointment via our regular school communication channels.

Student Principal

My thanks and congratulations to Jeremy who undertook the role of student Principal through our PBL rewards program. Our youngest student leader was a natural and went about his tasks as Principal with diligence and commitment. Jeremy was kept busy organising the next stage of the hall refurbishment, paying bills, visiting classrooms for feedback and delivering messages and busy bees over the PA. The future of UPS is in safe hands.

A great place to learn

It has been wonderful to visit classrooms and see students working hard and applying themselves to daily activities and major tasks. Stage 3 demonstrated a great depth of understanding about government at their recent ‘Country Day’ showcase, Stage 2 are becoming expert global citizens through their work on China, Stage 1 have been busy pitching their ideas for rejuvenating an unused area of the playground and kindergarten applied their knowledge of fauna on their recent excursion to Symbio Wildlife Park. All of these exciting opportunities are powered by our committed teaching and support staff who work tirelessly inside and outside of the classroom to provide quality experiences for all of our students. Teachers have also been busy assessing and preparing end of year reports ready for distribution on Monday Week 10. I look forward to celebrating further student success in the remaining 3 and a half weeks of the year.

Have a great day.

Cody Breasley Acting Principal
