Barraba Central School Term 1 – Week 7 14 March 2013 principal’s report Over halfway through the term and all students are continuing to wear their uniform and are looking fantastic. Students and parents need to be congratulated on maintaining their child’s uniforms and in supporting us in our efforts to sustain our uniform policy. A reminder also that uniforms have been reduced in cost to make this affordable for all families and these are available for purchase from the Primary and Secondary school offices. Last week I had the pleasure of attending both our Primary and Secondary assemblies. The Primary assembly was a great success and showed the talents of our Primary students. Well done to Year 5/6 and Mrs Irving for the organisation and a fantastic team effort. This week we introduce our Year 5/6 with their teacher Mrs Lin Irving. This week our Year 7 students along with our Year 9 male students have had their Immunisations. If any students have missed this vital Immunisation for any reason please contact the school so that arrangements can be made. Also, this week our Year 11 Biology students are off to Crowdy Bay National Park for their field study as part of their course requirements. Finally, this week some of our Secondary students are off to Guyra for the Central Schools Carnival. We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing all about it when they return. On Wednesday night our P&C AGM was held. It was great to see so many parents and community members interested in the education of our students. principal’s report

Over halfway through the term and all students are continuing to wear their uniform and are looking fantastic.

Our new committee members consist of President: Sue Reed, Vice President: Johnno Frost, Treasurer: Rhonda Phillips, Secretary: Tracy Frost.

Barraba Central School Term 1 – Week 7 14 March 2013 I look forward to working with the P&C committee this year.

Next Monday March 25th at 5.00pm I will be holding a Finance meeting for community members and parents to learn how the school monies are distributed and how they are linked to the curriculum. This meeting will be held in the Secondary office building. If you are unable to attend this meeting please contact the school so that other arrangements can be made.

Next week students from K-12 will be celebrating Senior Citizens Week, our K-6 going to Richardson House to sign for the residence at about 10.00 am. Our secondary students will take on a group of senior local residence at bowls on Wednesday afternoon. I look forward to both events.

Also next week we have Harmony day activities happening on Thursday. Parents and students from Years 5 and 6 are welcome to attend the activities and have a look at the outstanding facilities that our secondary school has to offer.

A CD on head lice is coming out to all parents today for students in primary school. Please take time to look at the CD.

Until next week! Adam Forrester Principal

Barraba Show It was a very wet day but a faithful band of students turned up to help show the school and Wyambee sheep at the show. Ashleigh Bailey, Jayden Gee, Avi Chand, Ryan Hall and Simone Isaac were the helpers for the day. They all did a magnificent job and managed to get a Supreme Champion Ewe for one of the school’s sheep. They also obtained a Champion Ram for Wyambee. Well done!

Tamworth Show Three enthusiastic students travelled to Tamworth to show the school’s sheep and Wyambee sheep. The day was long as the Poll Dorset classes were on last. Jayden, showing for Wyambee managed to obtain a First Place with his ram and then obtained Champion. Ricky, showing for Wyambee pulled off a surprise with his ewe which was awarded Champion. In the Interbreed classes we were not successful with either the ram or ewe. Hannah Mallise was very successful at showing, receiving a number of first places but was unable to get a Champion. We had some success with the last class of a ram and two ewes where we were 2nd in the Interbreed. On Sunday the 10th of March Regina Simpson and Morgan Phillips travelled to Walcha for the Regional Junior Judging elimination round. If you win there you get to judge at the Royal Show in Sydney. Regina and Morgan did exceptionally well with Regina coming 4th in the Cattle, 3rd in the Fleece and 3rd in Merinos. Morgan came 2nd in Grains, 5th in Cattle and 4th in Merinos. The Agricultural section of the school is very proud of the efforts of Morgan and Regina. Congratulations to all students for representing our school and for achieving fantastic results.

General Permission Notes

There are still some families who have not returned their child’s General Permission Note.

Please ensure that these are returned to the school office as soon as possible to avoid your

child missing out on future activities that may require your immediate permission. If they

have been misplaced or you have not received one please contact the school.

International Women’s Day Last Friday we had over 30 women attend school early to participate in International Women’s Day activities. A great morning was had by all. Well done to Mrs Longstaff for her organisation and coordination of this event.

Year 8 Geography In last week’s Newsletter we saw photos of Mr Longstaff’s Year 8 Geography class working on a project comparing lives to the lives in a developing country. Through the use of laptops students have been able to research the internet and learn interesting facts about another country. This week students have been sharing their findings with the rest of the class so that everyone can benefit and learn from their discoveries. GREAT WORK Year 8!
