As my first whole school event it made me feel very proud to be the principal of this wonderful school. From the childrens participation and sportsmanship, to the parent and community support and the hard work of the staff it had a country school feelin the heart of the city. I would particularly like to thank Mr Paul Messom, our Phys Ed specialist for all his hard work co-ordinating such a great day. Congratulations to all of our winners on the day, in particular our Champion boys and girls who were: Year 3 Girls Champion: Chloe Miller. Runner-up: Kitty-Rose Richards Year 3 Boys Champion: Jake Thompson Runner-up: Tristan Naude Year 4 Girls Champion: Phoebe Manners Runners-up:Emily Prestage and Kapri Spencer Year 4 Boys Champion: Maxim Collins Runner-up: Trent Yates Year 5 Girls Champion: Elissa Robertson Runner-up: Emilee Bentley Year 5 Boys Champion: Mitchell Thorley Runner-up: Eli Doble Year 6 Girls Champion: Chloe Frediani Runner-up: Lana Naude Year 6 Boys Champion: Tane Dodunski Runner-up Shae Miller. Congratulations to Gold Faction—Batavia, who just pipped Red Faction- Cygnet, by 1 point on the day. A big thank you to those parents who participated in the inaugural staff versus parents relay. This adds great excitement to the day and the staff now need to get into training for next year as we were just beaten in both heats by the parents! Well done to all of those children who have been selected for the Interschool Carnival next week. I am sure they will represent Springfield with excellent sportsmanship at this event. The Jumps and Throws will be held at our school on Monday and the main carnival will be held at Windermere Reserve, opposite Joondalup Primary School, next Thursday. We look forward to seeing lots of support for Springfield on these days. P & C Thank you to all of those parents who attended the P & C AGM last Wednesday evening. I would like to introduce Mrs Kerry Yates as the new P & C President. Please see her report later in this newsletter introducing all of the office bearers. I would like to thank all of our outgoing P & C for all their hard work leading the P & C through the difficult process of reviewing the canteen and moving to our current format of a viable canteen making a small profit. This will be reviewed again mid-year as our current canteen co-ordinator and many of our volunteers have children in their final year of primary school and therefore a focus of 2019 will be transition planning to ensure that the canteen is a viable service for our school community going forward. Please come together and volunteer and support this service for it to survive. The P & C have a goal of fundraising for some up to date technology devices to support the digital technologies curriculum. Thank you to all the volunteers on the carnival day who have already made some progress towards this goal. I look forward to seeing the community come together to support this fundraising goal as the year progresses. On Wednesday, 20th March Springfield Primary School held their annual AGM. “Thank-

You” to all the parents that attended, it was a great turn-out for an AGM, where most usually stay away … I’m excited to announce we were able to fulfil our team, I’m please to introduce you to your new P&C Office Bearers for 2019-:

President: Kerry Yates

Vice-President: Kirsti Wardlaw

Secretary: Rachel Grugeon

Treasurer: Lauren Lawley

Other Committee members include: Canteen Treasurer: Su-Yin Skeffington Canteen Co-Ordinator: Lee Kinsella Uniform Co-Ordinator: Kirsti Wardlaw & WACSSO rep WACSSO Representative: Tony Osborne

With the AGM wrapped up and sealed, I now look forward to inviting all parents to join us for our ongoing P&C meetings, throughout the year. I’ll appreciate all your feedback and ideas pertaining to our school and community. I’d like to encourage parents to participate in supporting your child’s education. As mentioned at our Faction Carnival last Friday, Mrs Blythe would like us to focus on gaining some new and exciting IT Technology Equipment for our children. We would love to get a “driven Fundraising sub-committee Team” together to plan for upcoming and ongoing fundraising events, so we can reach our goals and targets. If you’re interested in assisting with these initiatives please express your interest by sending an email to myself on: [email protected]. We have the Easter Raffle, Mother’s Day stall and Disco on the agenda, but would love to hear of some fresh and new ideas. As your new P&C President, I’d like to assure you that being involved in the Springfield P&C will be a rewarding involvement; you’ll assist in linking our School to the community, you’ll be part of a large decision-making group, you’ll get to know our teachers and Principal, it’ll be an amazing environment to meet new friends and parents. You’ll provide positive self esteem knowing your have contributed and made a difference. I truly look forward to having you join our P&C Team in 2019. It is a 3 year vision-plan, so join now and be a part of an exciting time with our new Principal, Mrs Blythe. Dynamic changes are already happening and taking place, for those of you that attended and supported our Annual Faction Carnival last Friday …. Wow, wow, wow how stimulating was the day, the vibe and atmosphere was electric, how exhilarating was the long-awaited return of the Parent/Teacher race – Congratulations to all those parents and teachers that excelled at the event. Our children loved watching their teachers and parents in ACTION, glad to report there were no injuries! Please don’t think I’m totally biased (well I guess I am a little bit) but I’ve been waiting for a “decade, yes, you heard correctly a DECADE” for Gold to finally win! And, we DID … a HUGE Congratulations to our Gold Faction Captions you did an awesome job getting your team across the line – by ONE POINT, over RED Team, it couldn’t get any closer! I’ll just enjoy the next 365 days knowing that Gold are Winners – Yah! You can have it back next year Red or Green! In closing THANK YOU so much to our P&C Vice-President Kirsti and her team that arranged the Coffee and Cake stall, to Lee our Canteen Co-Ordinator for preparing and ordering all the student lunches by selling Sausage Sizzles and Sushi, these raised over $600+ on the day. To those parents that were line judges, your help and assistance was appreciated and never went unnoticed, especially as I’d only been selected two day prior, you all just ‘ran-with-it’ and it was a huge success. Then, to Mr M, our amazing Staff and new Principal – “THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU” for such a well organised and professionally run, fun-filled day. Please feel free to contact me on: [email protected] if you’d like to improve our association.

“Working Together Our P&C will ACHIEVE More!”

Yours sincerely,

Kerry Yates
