Using a camera: When it came to taking my photographs for my music magazine contents page I used a DSLR camera to ensure my images were as professional as they could be. I took 4 images in total and positioned them together on the right hand side corner of my contents page as I wanted to make my magazine look like a real media product, therefore by adding a variety of images I will be able to easily achieve this. The first image I took at The 1975s concert as my magazine features many articles involving this band as they appeal to my target audience. The other 3 images feature new and upcoming bands/solo artist as I want to bring recognition to these talented people and allow my audience to discover new music. When taking these photographs I wanted a plain white background so the main focus could be of the subjects featured. In two of these images the solo artist are holding a guitar as this conveys my genre pop punk and allows attitude to be created. In my final image it shows a band called The violets who are stood back to back and looking directly in to the camera, I asked them to do this as I wanted to show the relationship between the two and convey confident.

When creating my music magazine contents page my skills had improved significantly since I made my college magazine therefore I found it easier to create my contents page and make it professional and visually appealing to the public eye. To begin with the first step I did was add a banner at the top of the page in red to fit in with my colour scheme, I then added a headline which says ‘Contents’ in black bold font which I put in a unique font which I felt conveyed pop punk. The reason I did this is because I want it to stand out and be the first thing customers spot when looking at my contents page,

I then added a screengrab of my front cover in the corner of the banner as this is something which my preliminary task lacked on therefore I wanted to ensure I followed all the steps of a real media product in my music magazine. The reason I did this was simply just to show of my front cover so its visible to the audience as much as possible.

Beside this I added the issue date and the month which my magazine was released in. This is something which a real media product follows therefore I added it to my contents page as I want it to be as professional as possible.

The next step was adding my images which as shown I positioned together on the right hand side of my contents page. I made the images large so they stood out and caught the customers attention as when conducing my survey I asked the audience what attracted them to a contents page and one of the commonly chosen options was images. When It came to taking my images I wanted them to show a variety of different things to make them interesting, therefore I added one of a popular well known band The 1975 performing at their gig, two images of new and upcoming solo artist and finally one of a new duo. I ensured the subjects were all doing different things to once again create a large variety and to also convey the genre which they perform and allow the audience to see what they are like. As shown in the screengrab, at the bottom of each image I added large font which shows the number page which the artists are featured on as this is a real media convention.

The final step which I followed when creating my contents page was adding the regular and feature content in 3 different columns. This was the easiest step to follow as its very simple and straightforward therefore I didn’t find myself struggling. As shown I once again continued my colour scheme and made the feature content titles green and the regular content titles ed. This overall makes my contents page look more visually appealing and bold. When coming up with the captions underneath each title I ensured that I made them interesting and intriguing to compel the readers to read the articles. Although I also kept them very vague as I didn’t want to give away too much information. As in my preliminary task I didn’t do a good job at this as I felt that they were boring therefore I wanted to make sure that with my music magazine they were perfect.
