Forme A – (Du Français à l’Anglais)

I. PRIERE

1-Invitation à la prière

Signe de la croix : Au nom du Père et du Fils et du Saint Esprit. R/ Amen.

Lorsque le cortège funèbre arrive sur le lieu de l’inhumation, le ministre dit ce qui suit ou fait

une invitation similaire.

— Our brother/sister N. has gone to his/her rest in the peace of Christ.

— May the Lord now welcome him/her to the table of God’s children in

heaven. With faith and hope in eternal life, let us assist him/her with our

prayers.

— Let us pray to the Lord also for ourselves. May we who mourn be reunited

one day with N.; together may we meet Christ Jesus when he who is our life

appears in glory.

Silence

On peut lire un Psaume en Français ou passer directement à la prière litanique. Mais il serait

plus significatif de lire le Psaume pour accompagner la mise en terre de la dépouille mortelle

pendant le temps de l’aspersion par la famille ou un temps prévu pour la circonstance.

2-Prière d’intercession

Rappelons-nous les paroles de Jésus à la sœur

de son ami Lazare qui venait de mourir :

«Je suis la résurrection et la vie :

celui qui croit en moi, même s’il meurt, vivra» (Jn 11, 25)

Prions ensemble :

R/. Seigneur, écoute-nous.

Seigneur Jésus, toi qui as pleuré ton ami Lazare, au tombeau,

essuie nos larmes, nous t’en prions. R/.

Toi qui as fait revivre les morts,

accorde la vie éternelle à notre frère/sœur N.,

nous t’en prions. R/.


Tu as sanctifié N. dans l’eau du baptême,

donne-lui en plénitude la vie des enfants de Dieu,



Tu l’as nourri de ton corps,

reçois-le à la table de ton Royaume,



Tu as connu la mort par amour pour nous

et tu en as triomphé pour que nous ayons la vie,

assure toi-même nos cœurs dans l’espérance,



Seigneur, notre vie est courte et fragile,

la mort présente de N. nous le rappelle.

Mais toi, tu es vivant à jamais

et ton amour est plus fort que la mort.

Nous te confions ceux et celles qui nous ont quittés.

Accueille les pour qu’ils vivent auprès de toi.

Par Jésus, le Christ, notre Seigneur.

On récite le Notre Père ou on chante un chant. .

3-Oraison de l’inhumation

Prière A - Si la place d’inhumation n’est pas bénie.

Lord Jesus Christ,

by your own three days in the tomb,

you hallowed the graves of all who believe

in you and so made the grave a sign of hope

that promises resurrection even as it claims our mortal bodies.

Grant that our brother/sister may sleep here in peace

until you awaken him/her to glory,

for you are the résurrection and the life.

Then he/she will see you face to face

and in your light will see light

and know the splendour of God,

for you live and reign for ever and ever.

R. Amen.

Prière B - Si la place d’inhumation n’est pas bénie.

O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest,

bless this grave, and send your holy angel to watch over it.

As we bury here the body of our brother/sister,

deliver his/her soul from every bond of sin,

that he/she may rejoice in you with your saints for ever.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

Prière C- Si la place d’inhumation est déjà bénie.

Lord, you welcome all true prayer

and you hear even our silences.

We pray for those who have left us:

they are with you in peace

and joy with all those whom you call

to enter your Kingdom.

Grant this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

R. Amen.

II. INHUMATION

Après que le prêtre a fini l’oraion, d’autres formes de rites de l’inhumation - selon les usages des

lieux - peuvent prendre place : aspersion d’eau par la famille après le prêtre, bénédiction de la

croix et sa remise à la famille, rite de bénédiction de la terre, etc.

On accompagnera ce temps soit par la récitation de trois Ave Maria ou par un chant, soit par la

lecture d’un des Psaumes ci-après, si cette lecture n’a pas été faite après la monition. On lira,

notamment le Psaume 22, pour accompagne la mise en terre de la dépouille mortelle.

Psalm 22

R/ Le Seigneur est mon berger

rien ne saurait me manquer

Le Seigneur est mon berger :

je ne manque de rien;

sur des prés d’herbe fraîche,

Il me fait reposer.

Il me mène vers les eaux tranquilles

et me fait revivre;

il me conduit par le juste chemin

pour l’honneur de son nom.

Si je traverse les ravins de la mort,

je ne crains aucun mal,

car tu es avec moi:

ton bâton me guide et me rassure.

Tu prépares la table pour moi

devant mes ennemis;

tu répands le parfum sur ma tête,

ma coupe est débordante.

PSAUME 129

R/ Je mets mon espoir dans le Seigneur,

je suis sûr de sa Parole.

Des profondeurs, je crie vers toi, Seigneur,

Seigneur, écoute mon appel!

Que ton oreille se fasse attentive

au cri de ma prière!

Si tu retiens les fautes, Seigneur,

Seigneur qui subsistera?

Mais près de toi se trouve le pardon

pour que l’homme te craigne.

Mon âme attend le Seigneur

plus qu’un veilleur ne guette l’aurore;

plus qu’un veilleur ne guette l’aurore,

attends le Seigneur, Israël.

Oui, près du Seigneur est l’amour;

près de lui abonde le rachat.

C’est lui qui rachètera Israël

de toutes ses fautes.

III. CONCLUSION

1-Première option : (en Anglais).

The Prayer to be said by a relative of the deceased is not mandatory. With reference to the

family, it may occur at the end of the rites of conclusion, either in lieu of the Psalms, i.e. shortly

before the closing of the liturgy at the cemetery.

Prayer over the People. The assisting minister or the minister says: Bow your heads and

pray for God’s blessing. All pray silently. The minister, with hands outstretched over the people,

says the following prayer.

Merciful Lord,

you know the anguish of the sorrowful,

you are attentive to the prayers of the humble.

Hear your people who cry out to you in their need,

and strengthen their hope in your lasting goodness.


R. Amen.

The minister then says the following:

Eternal rest grant unto him/her, O Lord.

R. And let perpetual light shine upon him/her.

May he/she rest in peace.

R. Amen.

May his/her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the

mercy of God, rest in peace.

R. Amen.

A minister who is a priest or deacon says :

May the peace of God, which is beyond all understanding, keep your

hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and of his Son, our

Lord Jesus Christ.

R/. Amen.

May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy

Spirit. R/. Amen.

2-Deuxième option: (en Français)

La prière à dire par un proche du défunt n’est pas obligatoire. Avec la consultation de la

famille, elle pourra intervenir soit à la toute fin des rites de renvoi, soit en remplacement des

psaumes, c’est-à-dire peu de temps avant la clôture de la liturgie au cimetière.

Antiennes de conclusion (au choix):

dans une communion nouvelle et plus forte avec nous.

Ce que tu as vécu, tout cela continue aujourd’hui,

et l’élan que tu as pris, qui l’arrêtera ?

Et maintenant, Seigneur Jésus-Christ,

c’est vers Toi que nous regardons,

Toi, l’un de nous, Toi, plus grand que nous ;

ce que Tu as vécu sur cette terre,

tout cela continue à travers nous ;

et l’élan que Tu nous as communiqué,

The Sign of the Cross: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of

the Holy Spirit. Amen.

When the funeral procession arrives at the place of committal the minister says the following or

a similar invitation.

— Dans ce lieu où tant de défunts de nos familles ont précédé

celui qui vient de nous quitter…

— Dans ce lieu où tant d’hommes et de femmes viennent se recueillir

sur la tombe d’un être cher…

— Faisons d’abord silence,

en laissant nos cœurs se rejoindre pour retrouver Dieu. Silence

A brief Scripture verse can be read.

Scriptures verses:

— Matthew 25:34 ‘‘Come, you whom my Father has blessed, says the Lord; inherit the

kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world’’.

— John 6:39 ‘‘This is the will of my Father, says the Lord, that I should lose nothing of all

that he has given to me, and that I should raise it up on the last day.’’

— Philippians 3:20 ‘‘Our true home is in heaven, and Jesus Christ whose return we long

All praise to you, Lord of all creation.

The Lord’s Prayer can preferably be said or just a song instead.

3-Rite of Committal

Prayer A (if the place of burial is not blessed).

Seigneur Jésus, avant de ressusciter,

Tu as reposé trois jours en terre.

Et depuis ces jours-là,

la tombe des hommes est devenue,

pour les croyants,

signe d’espérance en la résurrection.

Au moment d’ensevelir notre frère,

Nous te prions,

Toi qui es la Résurrection et la Vie:

donne à N. de reposer en paix dans ce tombeau

jusqu’au jour ou tu le/la réveilleras,

pour qu’il/elle voit, de ses yeux,

(dans la claret de ta face),

la lumière sans déclin.

Toi qui vis et règne pour les siècles.

Prayer B (if the place of burial is already blessed).

Seigneur, tu accueilles toute vraie prière

et tu entends même nos silences.

Avec toute notre affection,

nous avons accompagné jusqu’ici ton serviteur/ta servante N.

Qu’il/elle trouve auprès de toi la paix et la joie.

avec ceux et celles que tu appelles

à entrer dans ton Royaume.

Prayer C (if the place of burial is already blessed).

Seigneur,

c’est toi qui nous a donné la vie,

c’est toi qui la redonneras

à nos corps mortels.

Tu n’es pas loin de ceux qui t’appellent,

et tu accueilles les pécheurs que nous sommes.

Vois notre peine, entends notre prière pour N.:

qu’il/elle soit délivre(é) de la mort

et comblé(é) de la douceur du Paradis,

Avec tous les saints.

II. COMMITTAL

After the priest close the Prayer for the Rite of Committal, other forms of burial’s rites -

according to the customs nearby - can take place: water sprayed on coffin by the family after the

priest, blessing of the cross for the family, rite of blessing of the earth, etc.

Three Hail Mary’s can be said or a reading of the Psalms can be done while the burial is taking

place, usually the Psalm 23.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd;

there is nothing I shall want.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures;

he leads me beside still waters;

he restores my soul.

He leads me in right paths for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil;

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff …they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord

my whole life long.

I will walk in the presence of the Lord

in the land of the living.

How gracious is the Lord, and just;

in a new and stronger communion with us.

What you live, all this continues today,

and the path you have taken, who will stop it?

And now, O Lord Jesus Christ,

You, one of us, You, greater than us;

what you live on this earth,

all this continues through us;

and the path you have communicated to us,

who will stop it?

You in which man recognizes his true face,

You who call us beyond ourselves,
