Prithvi Vandana was national theatre festival on global warming and climate change. Involving over 215 schools from 24 cities, Prithvi Vandana brought back the glory of the nature and portrayed the dangers to it through theatre, Thus, it played the role of an environmental message builder.

AIM OF THE PROJECT:

1. To put forward the condition of environment today vividly by using theatre as a form of art;

2. To universalize the particular instances of environmental exploitation and show its contribution towards deteriorating the nature;

3. To display environment-friendly practices and inspire the audience to follow the same;

4. To develop theatre in schools as a discipline.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

General public, as audience and students of grade 6th to grade 12th

DURATION OF THE PROJECT:

7 months (August 2012 to March 2013)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Hundred children were chosen from the each school. They were introduced to the topic through an induction. During the same, they were divided into four groups with twenty five children in each group. Each group worked under one of the following categories:

The Present State of Global warming and Climate change

The causes of this condition: Status of environment before 50, 100 and 150 years versus present condition

Individual and collective ways to reduce global warming and to encourage positive climate change

What will be the impact of these ways on the planet if they are followed meticulously, in 2050?

The Stage-Wise Description of the Project:

Stage 1- Communication with state NGOs and confirmation

Stage 2- Organization of environmental and theater orientation

Stage 3- City Rounds

Stage 4- Preparation for final rounds

Stage 5- Grand Finale in Delhi (2nd May 2013)

ORIENTATION: The induction included the interactive data on the above topics. The children worked on individual or collective aspects of the theme. They received continuous help from the theatre personalities. The scripts of the play were in Hindi or English. The scripts were written by the children themselves, along with guidance of their Eco-Club teachers and theatre members. Each play was given maximum of 15 minutes for presentation.

The Reach Out Rate (ROR) of Prithvi Vandana: Reach Out Rate is a standard by which we measure the degree to which a particular project will influence the public. Higher the number of people reached, higher the influence.

Prithvi Vandana had 24 cities with average of ten schools from each city participating in

the theatre festival. 215 schools of India joined us in this endeavour. All schools will be involved in the semi-final zone. At this point, a zonal theatre contest took place and one school was chosen from each state consequently. Out of the 24 final teams, ten were chosen for the final zone on the basis of their scores. These ten schools then competed in the final zone, which was held in Delhi on 2nd May 2013 at Kamani Auditorium. The Reach Out Rate was be approximately 64,000 people. THE SCORING PATTERN:

The criteria of judgment had the following components:

1. Script,

2. Set property,

3. Acting abilities,

4. Costumes and

5. The impact of whole play.
