Location, Location, Location.Where is the school? Busy families need to consider this and whether Mom and Dad can connect the dots for morning and afternoon drop off, after-school activities and pick-ups. You may think that you can work it out down the road, but unless you don't mind spending a lot of time in your car (think doctor and dental appointments, too), this is a huge consideration.

The School Itself. As you approach the school, can you see your child here? As you walk the halls and building, does it meet your expectations? Your child will be spend-ing days on end in this environment — do you agree that this is the best possible place for him?

Cost. For many parents, private school tuition is consideration number one. But Nashville private school tuitions are relatively low compared to schools in say, New York, where tuitions are beginning to top $40,000. For parents who make education the number one priority for their children, finding financial

aid, taking out loans or even downsizing a lifestyle to make a private educa-tion possible is all on the table.

Know Your Child.Would he be happier in a very structured environment or a somewhat structured environment (two categories that cover the majority of private schools)? Are the arts or athletic offerings available for what your child needs? Is curriculum hands-on for your hands-on learner?

Educators and Leadership. The leadership of a school and its teaching staff will play key roles in your family's life going foward. Make sure you are comfortable with the school personnel. Seek feedback from currently enrolled parents.

Ask questions. Before your visit, brainstorm the things that are important to you about your children's educations then ask a lot of questions when you are on the tours — only don't be obnoxious. Once you've determined the right school for your child, you still have to get in!

which school is right? You've determined that private school is the way to go for your child's education — only, which one? Narrow down your options, then visit

each school to determine which one fits your family best.

For many, having a gifted reader in the classroom

means one less student to worry about teaching

especially when working with children from

Prekindergarten to Third grade. One may

think that a gifted reader is capable of reading

and comprehending without extra instruction and

therefore more attention can be given to struggling s

tudents. However, a gifted reader deserves

to have curriculum and reading programs

tailored the meet his needs just as the

average or struggling student. Gifted

readers can typically read above grade

level, but still need to be taught how to comprehend

what they are reading, how to ask the higher

This is our vision for students at Pope John Paul II High School. When teens are immersed in a culture of optimism and high expectations, when they're supported by teachers and parents who care about them and pick them up when they stumble, when they belong to a team, activity or club that they are passionate about with others who share that passion, and when they are invited to grow in their faith through prayer, worship and service, they truly flourish, becoming young men and women who are confident, happy and future oriented.
