The 2017 license renewal process is upon us, and a great way to meet your Rule 6.1 pro bono obligation is to make a financial contribution to pro bono legal services. Rule 6.1 provides that every lawyer has a professional responsibility to provide legal services to those unable to pay, and that lawyers should aspire to render at least 20 hours of pro bono service per year. The rule also provides that an alternative to 20 hours of pro bono service is to contribute at least $500 per year to an organization or group that provides pro bono legal services to persons of limited means. Making a contribution to a pro bono legal services organization is easy and can be done during the 2017 license renewal process. • The 2017 license renewal process is upon us, and a great way to meet your Rule 6.1 pro bono obligation is to make a financial contribution to pro bono legal services.

On the voluntary donation portion of the invoice, an area is designated for donations to the ONE Promise Nevada Campaign; it looks like this:

Simply enter the amount you would like to donate to pro bono legal services and you are done! Rule 6.1 establishes $500 as the aspirational donation amount; however, all donations in support of the ONE Promise Nevada Campaign and pro bono are encouraged and appreciated. With your donation, you have met your Rule 6.1 aspirational goal and, more importantly, you have done your part to support pro bono services in Nevada. Finally, do not forget to report your participation in pro bono services on your 2017 license renewal—your donation counts!

For more information on the ONE Promise Nevada Campaign volunteer and donation opportunities, please contact Angela Washington, Access to Justice Director at the State Bar of Nevada at [email protected].
