This bag of wood chips was our main use of insulation within CMPLEB. This was used because wood is made of layers and these layers have air in

between them. This air is a good insulator and keeps the heat in the soda can.

This bag of Quickcrete® was used to fill in the hole between the wood chips. As well this was thought as a good choice for insulation because it kept the

heat from escaping and kept the heat close to the can.

This shows our insulator without any insulation inside. The only thing in the cardboard box are a few wood chips under the can and the can

itself.

This is our means of putting the Quickcrete ® in our insulator …a Beaker !!!!

This is Katie pouring the Quickcrete® into the wood chips that rested underneath the soda

can

This is Lindsey putting wood chips around the side of the can. They had to be sorted

and made sure that they were small enough to pack together as close as

possible.

This sorting process took awhile.

Finally, Katie can fill in the hole on the sides of the can. The same material was used as on the

bottom wood chips.

This piece of house insulation was glued to the bottom of the lid and sat on top of the can. The idea

was to minimize the amount of air space between the opening in the can and the lid.

This piece of housing insulation has a hole in it for the thermometer that was to be inserted. This was made using a

sharp pointed object.

The placement of the hole in the housing insulation was measured then an identical one was made in the lid of the

insulator. These scissors cut through the foam board easily.

This is Lindsey hot putting hot glue on the housing insulation so that it can be put on the bottom of the foam board lid.

This took very careful placement to make sure the holes were aligned properly.

This is the finished lid. The housing insulation sits perfectly on top of the can and the lid keeps the air out.

Here is the finished insulator. This just awaits decorating.

This is the finished insulator. The only change was the duck tape not only to help make sure the cardboard box held but

also for looks.

This is the inside of our insulator. The can had wood chips underneath and up the side. As well the housing insulation sat on top of the can when the lid was closed.
