Procedure to upgrade Firmware of LSI SAS-2308 controller included as part as HP Z820 Motherboard. Date = 2015-06-12 Introduction. As part of Raidix installation it is mandatory to upgrade firmware version of the LSI SAS-2308 controller included in HP Z820 Motherboard. By default this board came with Version 12 and, following Raidix Technicians instructions (confirmed with our tests), it is mandatory to upgrade this firmware to Version 18 or higher. If the firmware upgrade it is not done Raidix is giving a lot of errors and problems related to disks (of course when these disk are connected to LSI SAS Controller) Procedure to upgrade firmware of LSI SAS-2308. To do it is necessary to boot the system from a USB bootable pen drive or similar and execute the procedure. The folder to upgrade firmware is SP68642. The folder compressed is included in this procedure. 1.- Making an Bootable USB Pen Drive. - Use a Windows PC and Yumi executable. o You can use the attached or use this link o http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/ - Connect Pen Drive and note the letter assigned by Windows. - Pen Drive will be formatted and will lost data on it. - Launch Yumi. o Yumi setup. o Step-1. Select Drive = <Letter associated to Pen Drive>. Format F: Drive = Enable o Step-2 Select a Distribution FreeDOS (Balder.Img) Use the attached or visit the Finnix Balder Home Page Select distribution. Right button of the mouse Save destination. Confirm is properly saved. If it is necessary change the extension of the file from .htm to .img o Step-3 Browse Select file.img (balder10.img) of the image FreeDOS Create Appear an advise about the process. Procedure to upgrade Firmware of LSI SAS-2308 controller included as part as HP Z820 Motherboard.

Introduction.

As part of Raidix installation it is mandatory to upgrade firmware version of the LSI SAS-2308 controller included in HP Z820 Motherboard.

By default this board came with Version 12 and, following Raidix Technicians instructions (confirmed with our

tests), it is mandatory to upgrade this firmware to Version 18 or higher. If the firmware upgrade it is not done Raidix is giving a lot of errors and problems related to disks (of course

when these disk are connected to LSI SAS Controller)

Procedure to upgrade firmware of LSI SAS-2308. To do it is necessary to boot the system from a USB bootable pen drive or similar and execute the procedure.

The folder to upgrade firmware is SP68642. The folder compressed is included in this procedure.

1.- Making an Bootable USB Pen Drive.

- Use a Windows PC and Yumi executable.

- Connect Pen Drive and note the letter assigned by Windows.

- Pen Drive will be formatted and will lost data on it. - Launch Yumi.

� Format F: Drive = Enable o Step-2

� Select a Distribution

� FreeDOS (Balder.Img)

� Use the attached or visit the Finnix Balder Home Page � Select distribution.

� Right button of the mouse

� Save destination. Confirm is properly saved. � If it is necessary change the extension of the file from .htm to .img

o Step-3

� Browse

� Select file.img (balder10.img) of the image FreeDOS

� Create

� Appear an advise about the process.

� Yes

We are using FreeDOS because we have tested than works correctly.

This process make the USB Pen Drive as bootable device.

2.- Copying firmware files to Bootable USB Pen Drive. Uncompress sp68642.zip file included in this procedure.

Copy the folder sp68642 to multiboot folder in USB Pen Drive. This folder will be accessible as C:\> unit.

3.- Firmware Upgrade. Follow this procedure to upgrade the firmware.

− Power Off workstation (Z820).

− Connect USB Bootable device.

− Power On.

− Confirm workstation boot from USB device. If it is necessary you must change the order of boot device in

BIOS setup.

− Select Yumi multiboot.

− System Tools

− Balder DOS Image

− Workstation load Operative System FreeDOS and after do it appear a DOS prompt over unit A:/>. (We

must change to unit C:/> where the firmware files are)

− C: > <Enter>

− cd MULTI <Press Tab to let the system complete MULTI-1>

− cd SP68642 − FW_UPD.bat

This last command launch the firmware upgrade.

Once the process finish you will get the prompt again.

Reboot the system.

Confirm in boot process that upgrade were correctly done. In LSI console of the boot you must see this screen
