Pitch Sessions – What to Expect!Pitch Strategy Workshop:

The Pitch Crafting Workshop will provide you with more information on the entire Fast Pitch process, a chance to hear from past participants and coaches, and a overview of what’s expected of you as a process coach! You’ll meet all of our 2017 Fast Pitch nonprofits. This is your chance to see who you click with and which of the 20 organizations you’ll rank to be paired with (you must rank at least 10/20 on your list).

Pitch Sessions:Each pitch session follows the same format – and each pitch contestant gets

the chance to pitch and receive feedback. Nonprofits assigned a random pitch order at the beginning of the session Nonprofit pitch performer gives their 3-minute pitch to all 40 coaches and

nonprofits Feedback:

o Coaches record anecdotal feedback on notecardso 5-7 minutes of verbal feedback from coaches

o Coaches score each pitch performer on areas of impact, innovation, and pitch (see: SCORECARD in ‘Tools’ section)

Next nonprofit pitches

Pitch Session ToolsWithin 48 hours of each Pitch Session, you will have access to several tools to support your team’s pitch refining efforts. Through SVP Connect, you will be able to access a video of your pitch from the session and your team’s comparative scores (as submitted by process coaches) in the areas of impact, innovation, and pitch. You should plan to meet as a team (pitch performer and coaches) AFTER these tools have been released – ideally, your team meetings will occur 48 hours or more after each session.

Nonprofit Expectations: Pitch performer must attend all four sessions and be available to present at

the 3/9/17 SVP Fast Pitch Event. If an emergency arises and the main pitch performer is unable to attend a mandatory session, a secondary representative from the organization MUST attend or eligibility for participation at the final event will be in jeopardy

Each ‘team’ – two coaches and the pitch performer – will be paired no later than 1/10/17. It is the Pitch performer’s responsibility to schedule team meetings in between each session to review pitch content and receive feedback from your coaching team. See ‘TOOLS’ section for ways to connect and schedule with busy coaches!

Incorporate coach feedback into your edits – your pitch should change from pitch session to session

Pitch performer must be completely off book for Pitch Session #3, 2/9/17.

Coach Expectations:While all nonprofits will receive feedback from all coaches at Pitch Sessions, each nonprofit will have two dedicated coaches that support them between each pitch crafting session. Your organization’s pitch performer and two dedicated coaches make up your ‘team’. Coaches are advised to schedule a site visit with their nonprofit, but this is optional and coaches are not required to do so.Due to our intentional pairing process, at least one of the two dedicated coaches for each team will attend each Pitch Crafting Session (though ideally and in most cases, both will be in attendance). Coaches must also dedicate an hour of time between each Pitch Session dedicated to providing your nonprofit feedback on their pitch.

Some coaches go well beyond their minimum coaching commitment, but this is up to each individual coach and is not a requirement of the process. This may include additional time spent working with nonprofit on their pitch, funding or donating to your nonprofit, or working with your nonprofit on visual components that can accompany the pitch in settings outside of SVP Fast Pitch.

Pitch ContentNonprofits will be scored in three areas- Impact, Innovation, and Pitch. Beyond highlighting how your team’s organization is impactful and innovative, you must also include a ‘big ask’ that would take the organization to the next level. This could be a funding amount, specific type or quantity of volunteers, or an in-kind ask. Determine which type of ask is the best fit for the organization right now and clearly articulate how fulfilling that ask will make a difference for the population(s) served.

SVP Fast Pitch – Final Event AwardsThe following will be awarded at our 3/9/17 SVP Fast Pitch Event.

Coaches Award – CriteriaThe Coaches Award is given to the participant who is the most improved and who doesn’t win the judges award. Coaches will participate in a voting process at the final session (2/9/17) to determine our Coach’s award winner. The Coaches Award cannot go to the nonprofit who wins 1st, 2nd or 3rd place at the event. If the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place winner is identified as the coaches award winner, we will go down our list and select the next winner.

What to look for in the most improved participant?  The person should: Have materially improved at least one aspect of their presentation such as:

o Delivery of their content- voice quality, diction, hand gestures, contact with audience, use of pauses and other effective speech qualities

o Content- Organization, effective communication of major points, humor

o Made major effort to engage with the process, incorporating feedback and making changes because of it and putting for effort to improve.

It is up to you and your nonprofit to schedule 1-2 hours between each session to review the pitch and make adjustments. The nonprofit pitch contestant is responsible for reaching out to coaches to schedule these sessions. We highly recommend scheduling these sessions before the first pitch session in January to ensure that busy schedules don’t hinder your pitch development. You will be paired with your nonprofit no later than 1/10/17.

ScorecardThe following is an example of the score sheet and criteria that will be used by all coaches at all sessions and by our Judges panel at the final SVP Fast Pitch Event.

Between Pitch Sessions – Connecting with your NonprofitYou are advised to set meeting times with your nonprofit and other team coach IMMEDIATELY upon receiving your team assignment. Teams are expected to meet for one hour between each pitch session starting after Pitch Session #1 on 1/10/17. To ensure you have access to the provided process tools before you meet as a team, schedule team meetings at least 48 hours after each pitch session.

While it is preferable that you meet as a team (i.e., both coaches and nonprofit pitch performer) and in person, we understand this may not always be possible. Below are some options for meeting and interacting if you are to meet either in person:

Additional Fast Pitch Opportunities

People’s Choice AwardLast year, leading up to SVP Fast Pitch, 30-second nonprofit pitch videos were released to an online site ‘Votdo’. Supporters could view the videos and vote – at $1 / vote – for their favorite. Nonprofits received all profits (above Votdo costs) from the votes they received and the overall winner with the most votes received the $1,000 People’s Choice Award prize. We hope to bring this contest back again in 2017. In order to bring this contest back in 2017, nonprofits will film their 30-second pitch at Pitch Session #2 (1/23/17).

SVP Fast Pitch – People’s Choice Award Online Contest

The SVP Fast Pitch People’s Choice Award Online Contest will run until 3/8/17 at 11:59pm. All votes cost $1 – and nonprofits will receive a portion of each vote received. In addition to receiving a portion of each vote received*, the nonprofit with the most votes by contest’s end will receive an additional $1,000 in unrestricted funding as the People’s Choice Award Winner! This nonprofit will be recognized on-stage at the March 9th Fast Pitch event. Consider this your opportunity to engage community members and supporters who may not be able to attend our March 9th Fast Pitch Event. Below are several suggestions on how to get the word out to your networks.

Why drive engagement / voting?See this as a major marketing opportunity. The winner becomes an “Award Winning Non-Profit” Tell your friends and supporters that THIS IS SOMETHING THAT YOU WANT TO WIN.  Encourage them to check the leader board and help you get to the top!

How to get the word out: A key to getting out the vote is to recognize that the People’s Choice Award is an

opportunity to get the more competitive of your donors fired up- the ones who believe both in the cause and take pride in being associated with it.  Beyond giving, it is an opportunity to fly the flag in a new way. Top business people tend to be competitive. Let them challenge each other. For example Mary from Wind should challenge Joe from 916. Make it personal!

Use it as an opportunity to get the importance of the work you do OUT THERE and spread your message. You can do individual press and promotion. Add it to whatever you are already doing. “Nonprofit X will be participating in the SVP Fast Pitch Competition in March and, if you can’t get down to see it live, you can still make a big difference by helping us win the People’s Choice Award by going to our web site and voting for us by donating.”

Place the voting link to their entry prominently on your web site. Embed the link into your e-mails and add  “Don’t forget we are trying to be named the

SVP’s People's Choice Award Winner for 2015 etc... the money goes to (our mission).

Talk it up on your Facebook page and include the link to your entry.    Send a special e-mail. “We’re still in 4th place!” Offer your donors a premium.   If they send you a copy of the receipt for 100 votes you

will give them…

*The credit card processor receives $0.30 on each transaction (whether it is one vote or one hundred). Taking out that processing fee and naming the remainder 100%, nonprofits will receive 80% of funds raised. 12.9% will go towards Votdo contest and percentage based processing fees. 7% will go to SVP to partially cover the cost of filming the 30-second pitches.

Ticket Sales AwardIn 2017, all 20 semi-finalist organizations are eligible to win the $1,000 Ticket Sales Award. This award goes to the participating nonprofit who sells the most tickets to our 2017 event. On January 10th, 2017, you will receive a unique ticketing link that you can use to sell tickets to the event. Your nonprofit will receive the same link – so tickets you help sell will count towards their total. An additional benefit of having the most attendees in the room for the 3/9/17 SVP Fast Pitch Event is the chance to have champions in attendance to be part of the vote for the audience award winner. The more board members, volunteers, and friendly faces you have in the room, the better your team’s shot at both awards! Winner will be announced at the 3/9/17 event.
