Mobile, Mobile, Mobile!

Well, this won’t do...

Mobile development is in demand this season, particularly responsive design.

Procom recruiter, Bowen Cheung recommends going deep on this skill set: “It’s not just about HTML or CSS3 anymore, it’s about understanding

responsive design and using tools like Phonegap. That’s what makes a candidate stand out right now.”

Big Data is Big for Business Analysts

Cave drawings: the original Big Data

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably seen the term “big data” buzzing around the internet. Bowen Cheung advises any Business Analyst looking for a new position, to take on a big data project before their search. Tools like Hadoop, NoSQL, and Mapreduce

should be in every BA’s repertoire.

Resume Reboot

“OMG, like srsly, what does this acronym stand for?”

Wendy Kennah, Director of Recruiting at Procom, likes when resumes include the full

versions of acronyms. “Recruiters might hit ‘ctrl+f’ on your resumes to look for certain

terms, but not necessarily acronyms,” says Kennah. Our advice? Hedge your bets and include both.

Bowen Cheung likes to know the exact months you have worked at previous jobs. “2012 to present doesn’t cut it. Most clients want to see the actual,

defined timeframe,” he says.© 2014 Procom Consultants Group Ltd; All rights reserved. Confidential & proprietary, not for external distribution 6

Interview Savvy

Don’t let it get to this point!

There’s nothing worse than a rambler. Be concise in your interview, even if your answer isn’t positive.

“I’d rather have someone say, ‘no, I don’t know ASA Cisco yet,’ than launch into a 5 minute lecture on their Checkpoint or Juniper skills,” Bow Cheung advises. If you decide to answer

the question in a roundabout way, at least check in everyone once ina while to make sure the interviewer hasn’t gotten bored.
