Proctor Expectations
Exam material (exam papers, scantron cards, exam booklets, and seating plans) should be picked
up from E6-2022 at 3:30 PMthe day of the exam (Friday, October 17, 2014). You are expectedto be in your designated room 30 minutes before the exam begins (that is, by 6:00 PM) in orderto distribute exam material. You should have everything prepared so that the exam beings on
time. Latecomers can then be handled with minimal disruption.
Do not sit at the front reading a book or doing work. Walk around the room frequently and
change your location in the room when sitting down. Students must realize that proctors are
being vigilant.
Room Set-up
Each room has assigned seating. There will be maps provided. The exams are in sequence, soset-up should be simple once you have found the first seat. Each student requires one exam, one
Scantron card, and one exam booklet. Extra pencils will also be available (for the scantron cards)
if students did not bring their own.
Row A is at the front of the classroom. As you face forwards (i.e., student perspective), seat
1 is on the far left. We will provide signs for you that will help indicate how the room is set up.
You can also use the board to show increasing seat numbers.
Lost Students
Each instructor has a complete list of all students with their seating locations. There will be aninstructor in each building; make sure you know where the nearest instructor is.

All students must sign the attendance list provided, and should display their WATCARD while
doing so. The list is arranged by seat number, so you should be able to circulate with it shortly
after the examination begins.
Answering questions: you must use your judgement, but generally it is ok to clarify the exam
question but do not provide hints or assistance in formulating the answer. Do not indicatewhether a student has a correct or incorrect answer.
Cheating:if you suspect cheating, try and get the instructor in charge of your room to assist you.
i) Do not touch the student; you may ask them to empty their pockets to collect evidence; ii)collect available evidence; iii) allow the student to finish writing the exam; iv) collect all
materials (not just Scantron) from the students involved at the end of the exam.
Late students: After the examination has begun, all candidates must remain for the first hour.Candidates who arrive more than one hour late for an examination may be barred from writing
the examination if students have already completed the examination and left the examination
room. The decision to allow a candidate to write the examination is at the discretion of theproctor. If the candidate is allowed to write the examination, the proctor will mark the time of
entry clearly on all of the answer booklets. There shall be no extension of time for candidates
who are allowed to sit the examination after arriving late.
Washroom breaks: If a student asks to leave the room for a short period (i.e. washroom break),
make sure all others are present before allowing him/her to leave and have another TA (of the
same gender) go with them. If both proctors are of the same gender, find another proctor from anearby classroom to accompany your student. Only one student should be allowed to leave at a
time.
At ten minutesbefore the conclusion of the examination period, the instructor or proctor mustannounce the time remaining. Candidates may not leave their seats in the examination room after
this time until all papers have been collected.
Scantron Cards
Only collect the Scantron cards at the end of the exam . Do not collect the question bookletsor the answer booklets in which students have done their work.
Arrange the cards so they are all the same way up. There is no need to place them in any
particular sequence. Return the cards to the main ChE office (E6, 3rd
floor), together with anyspare cards and exam booklets.
