This companion guide to your Prodigy Pilot’s Guides will help you manage and troubleshoot the SD cards used with your Garmin avionics It does not supersedetroubleshoot the SD cards used with your Garmin avionics.  It does not supersede any information in the Pilot’s Guides, but instead adds some additional information to clarify managing the databases on your SD cards.

The following Databases and coverage areas are available from Garmin’s website at fly.garmin.com –

• AOPA – United States, 56 day update cycle• Basemap – Worldwide, no regular update cycle, as needed• FliteCharts – United States, 28 day update cycle• Obstacle – United States and Europe, 56 day update cycle• SafeTaxi – United States, 56 day update cycle• Terrain – Worldwide, no regular update cycle, as needed

To find the System ID # for a Prodigy system to open a fly.garmin.com account or for y gy y p y ga Jeppesen account, look on the MFD AUX – SYSTEM STATUS page.  It will be listed in the AIRFRAME box in the upper right corner of the screen.

You will need the following information to setup an account –• Owner’s name, mailing address, phone number and email address• Credit Card and billing address• Ship To Address – can be same as billing address, used to calculate tax• Create a Username – recommend your email address or N#

To view Garmin Database files on SD cards, you may need to modify your Windows XP or Windows 7 settings in order to view them.  Follow these instructions to allow your g ycomputer to view hidden and system files so you can see the databases.

1. First, open the Windows Explorer program.  Click on your START button, then choose PROGRAMS, then ACCESSORIES, then WINDOWS EXPLORER.

2. When Windows Explorer opens, you will need to select TOOLS in the menu bar, then FOLDER OPTIONS in the drop down list Windows 7 users need to press thethen FOLDER OPTIONS in the drop down list.  Windows 7 users need to press the ALT key first to display their menu bar.

3. In the Folder Options window, choose the VIEW tab.  In this tab, you will need to change the following three settings –g g g

• Select the “Show hidden files and folders” circle.• Uncheck the “Hide extensions for known file types” box.• Uncheck the “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)” box.  

It may cause a pop up window to appear to confirm your selection.  If this occurs, confirm you want to view operating system files.

Now you can view the files on your Garmin SD Card.  You should see a list of files that is similar to the ones shown in this document for the part number card that you have.

The following is a list of all possible files and Databases that are on your Garmin SD cards in the Prodigy system.  Any files not listed here should be deleted from gy y ythe cards.

NOTEDo not format Garmin SD cards unless directed to by Garmin Product Support.  Formatting cards will delete all databases requiring them to be reloaded fromFormatting cards will delete all databases, requiring them to be reloaded from 

fly.garmin.com and Jeppesen.

Airframe_info.xml File:

This file is placed on the card by the system.  A brand new card will NOT have this file.  It lists the system’s software level and the System ID #.  If this file is deleted, the system will add it back onto the card automatically.  It will not interfere with the operation of the databases if it is missing.

Feat_unlk.dat File:

This file is placed on the card when the databases are written to the card.  It is required. It controls the copy protection for all the databases on the card.  If this file is missing, NO databases on the card will be accepted by the avionics.  If it is deleted, all databases will need to be reinstalled using fly.garmin.com.

A t db tb bi FilAvtn_db_stby.bin File:

This is the optional standby Jeppesen Navigation database.  It is loaded onto the card from a regular Nav database SD loader card in the top slot.  It will not interfere with the operation of the databases if it is missing.

Apt_dir.gca File:

This is the G1000 AOPA airport directory file.  It can only be used with GDU sw 10.00 and higher.  

Terrain.adb File:

This is the airport terrain database file and is included in the terrain database download (30AS and 9AS).( )

Terrain.odb File:

This is the obstacle database.

Terrain.tbd or Terrain_9as.tdb File:

Thi i th ld id t i d t b fil d i i l d d i th t i d t bThis is the worldwide terrain database file and is included in the terrain database download.  Terrain.tbd is the 30AS database and Terrain_9as.tdb is the 9AS database.  There should only be one of these files on the card, not both.  If you see both, then that indicates the wrong one was downloaded from fly.garmin.com.

Fc_tpc Folder:_ p

This is the Garmin FliteCharts folder where all the chart files are stored.

Bmap.bin File:

This is the basemap database.

This is the Garmin SafeTaxi database.

If the Part Number on your SD Card is 010‐00330‐41, you should have these files on y ythe card.  Any other files should be deleted.

If the Part Number on your SD Card is 010‐00330‐42, you should have these files on the card.  Any other files should be deleted except for Jeppesen ChartView Folders (Charts and Fonts) if installed(Charts and Fonts) if installed.

If the Part Number on your SD Card is 010‐00330‐43, you should have these files on y ythe card.  Any other files should be deleted except for Jeppesen ChartView Folders (Charts and Fonts) if installed.

If you have Jeppesen ChartView database installed, those files are added to a 010‐00330‐42 or 010‐00330‐43 SD card in the MFD only.

A separate SD card should be used to load the Jeppesen Navigation database into p pp gthe displays.  Do NOT use the Garmin SD cards for this purpose.  A SD card may be purchased from a local retailer to use.

The largest Jeppesen Navigation Database is about 45 MB in size, so you do not need to purchase a large capacity card.  Do not buy larger than a 4GB card, it is the highest recommended size for use with the Prodigy system.

These are the files you will see on this card after it is loaded using the Jeppesen JSUM program and used in the displays ‐

Retain this card in the aircraft. It will be needed in case a display unit isRetain this card in the aircraft.  It will be needed in case a display unit is replaced.  If it is not available to a service center if a display is replaced, a new Navigation Database download will need to be purchased from Jeppesen and installed.

Feature Unlock Cards

Feature Unlock Cards enable options such as TAWS‐B, TAWS‐A, SVT and Jeppesen ChartView.  They are not used by the pilot for any operations. 

Retain these cards in the aircraft.  They will be needed in case a display unit is replaced or a Prodigy System Software update is performed.  If they are not available to a service center, it will delay returning the aircraft to service.

If an Unlock card is lost, there is a replacement fee.  Contact Embraer Product Support to obtain a replacement card.
