TECH NOTE 029

Ford Ranger & Explorer Clutch Non Release

REASON:

Air trapped in the hydraulic release system.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

As a result of the clutch master cylinder location on the fire wall, air can remain trapped in the cylinder. It is recommended the master cylinder be pre bled prior to installation in the vehicle. It has been reported that successful bleeding can be achieved by raising the front of the vehicle to an angle that allows the air to escape to the delivery line end of the cylinder.

Intermediate Plate Centralizer Re-Use TECH NOTE 030

PLEASE NOTE: the intermediate plate centralizers used in the assembly pictured are no longer available. There-fore it is necessary to re-use the centralizers from the assembly being replaced.

Volvo Commercial kit VLK-7264 380 x 50.8 x 10. Suits some FH, FL & NL models 1993 - on.

The centralizer is slotted and correct adjustment is achieved when the domed upper surface of the centralizer just comes into contact with the pressure plate drive strap. This adjustment is imperative and must be per-formed with the clutch assembly bolted to the flywheel.

When replacing a concentric slave cylinder, in Astra, Barina and Vectra models, please follow the instructions below to ensure correct operation-

1. All grease or dust contamination must be removed from inside the bell housing.2 . All retaining bolts must be located and torqued to the manufacturers specification.3 . An “O” ring is located between the CSC and transmission and it must be replaced to prevent fluid leak and hence clutch non release.4 . The cylinder should be installed without grease and do not clean the cylinder with solvent.5 . Use only virgin Dot 4 or the manufacturers recommended brake fluid.
