Kutlo Consulting & Projects is a supplier of input materials and technical solutions to the electric rotating machine, transformer and general industries.

There are 3 operating sub divisions:• Electrical serves predominantly the motor, generator and transformer industries with

conductor, insulating materials and complementary products.• Industrial provides Self Adhesive Tapes to most sectors and industries including specialty

products for the signage industry• Mechanical provides bearings and ancillary products for motors and general industry.

Kutlo serves a diverse range of industries with over 6000 products stocked.

INDUSTRIES SERVED

Rail Transportation Kutlo distributes a full range of conductors, insulation materials and ancillary products used in AC and DC traction motors, traction transformers and other related components for the rail freight and passenger transportation industry.

PowerKutlo is able to supply motor, generator and transformer products to the energy industry. Our engineering department and drawing office caters for both OEM’s and repair companies with our ability to reverse engineer components. Insulation can be supplied in kit form for mass production environments or once-off specialized applications.

INDUSTRIES SERVED CONT.SteelIn addition to the standard conductor and insulation products

supplied to keep steel plants running, Kutlo also supplies thermal insulation for the manufacture and repair of electric arc furnaces, widely used in the smelting industry. Insulation can be supplied in kit form for mass production environments or once-off specialized applications.

ELECTRICAL

Kutlo’s Electrical Division supplies motor, generator and transformer manufacturers and repairers with enamelled and covered copper or aluminium conductor, a comprehensive range of insulating materials and complementary products. The rotating machine product range caters for low and high voltage motors up to 15kV, and generator components up to 600MVA. Similarly, the transformer product range caters for dry-type and oil-filled transformers up to 800MVA. The endusers of our products are leaders in the power generation, mining and rail transportation industries.Our team of technical specialists ensures that customers have up to date technical support through regular interaction with major global role-players in their respective fields. We are totally committed to the constant expansion and upgrading of our product range to meet the challenges of a dynamic market.

ELECTRICAL: ENAMELLED AND COVERED CONDUCTOR

In the bare and covered conductor division both Oxygen-Free and Electrolytic Tough Pitch copper are extruded using Conform technology or drawn using mills. Aluminium conductor is produced using the same methods. Conductor can be extruded up to 400mm² cross-sectional area, catering for the earthing strap and rod market.The bare conductors can thereafter be covered with paper, mica, Nomex®, Kapton®, Apical® and glass. A state-of-the-art positive pressure cell has been installed to cater for covering of conductor with polyimide film for the rail industry in a dust-free environment.

ELECTRICAL: ENAMELLED AND COVERED CONDUCTOR

We sell round and rectangular conductor from 0.2mm to 5mm diameter, using predominantlypolyesterimide (PI), armoured polyesterimide (API) and Inverter Grade Class 200 enamel. Acombination of enamel and glass is also available under the brand name Armatherm.

INSULATION MATERIAL

Kutlo supplies a comprehensive range of flexible and rigid insulating material for all electricmotor and transformer applications, from low voltage motors to traction motors and largepower generators and transformers.A technical support team of experts with years of experience in many aspects of themanufacture and application of insulation material is always available to answer any query.

INSULATION MATERIAL : CABLES

Kutlo supplies a range of cable into the electric motor, transformer, furnace and rail industries. Sourced from leading local and global manufacturers, the motor and transformer lead cable product range includes Nomex® cable, 1.1kV glass braided silicone cable (Wesbraid), 3.3kV to 13.8kV braided silicone cable (Siwo-Kul®). Speciality cables for the rail transportation industry include Halogen Free XLPE cable and jumper cable.

INSULATION MATERIAL: COMMUTATOR COMPONENTS

Kutlo supplies selected copper segment packs for traction motors in thepassenger and freight rail markets, and mining industries. Coupled to this arethe rigid and flexible mica products which are used in the manufacture andrepair of complete commutators

INSULATION MATERIAL: FLEXIBLE INSULATION

Kutlo supplies a full range of films, papers, flexible laminates and coated products required for both conductor covering and the manufacture or repair of low to medium voltage. Our technical expertise in South Africa is backed by leading global manufacturers such as DuPont and Isovolta. Products include Nomex® aramid paper, NMN Laminates (Isonom®), Epoxy coated Nomex® (Prinom®) and many others.

INSULATION MATERIAL: HIGH VOLTAGE INSULATION

Kutlo carries a full range of insulation materials required for the manufacture or repair of medium to high voltage motors and generators, using both resin-rich and global VPI technology. Our technical expertise in South Africa is backed by leading global manufacturers such as DuPont and Isovolta. Products include mica conductor insulation, mica-based main wall insulation, corona and stress-relieving products, and sealing tapes.

INSULATION MATERIAL: RIGID LAMINATES & PREPREGS

Kutlo supplies high quality laminates and prepregs for use in electrical andmechanical applications. A range of phenolic paper and fabric, polyester glassand epoxy glass materials are available in sheets or tubes. We also processmaterial to customer specification by various processes including cutting,grinding, drilling, turning, milling (standard or CNC), bonding and assembly toform wedges, barrier boards, blocking material and many other components. Wepartner with leading global suppliers with state-of-the-art laboratories to ensurethat the product range remains the most advanced available.

INSULATION MATERIAL: WOVEN PRODUCTS

Kutlo supplies a full range of woven tapes, braided sleeving andlashing ropes for motor and transformer applications. Tapeproducts include cotton, Terylene and glass woven in differentstyles, thicknesses and widths, and sleeving variants includeTerylene and glass braiding substrates, coated with silicone,acrylic, polyurethane resins. Lashing ropes and cords aremanufactured from glass which in combination withimpregnating resin, form a rigid support structure.

Our range of condition monitoring equipment is sourced from the global leader in partial dischargemonitoring technology, Iris Power, a division of Qualitrol, and includes on- and off-line PDmonitoring, and stator core analysis using EL-CID technology.

TRANSFORMER PRODUCTS

Kutlo stocks a broad range of products specific to the transformer industry, ranging from distribution transformers up to 800MVA power transformers. These include cellulose-based paper and board products supplied as raw materials, or alternatively kits containing added value products such as cylinders, press-frames, clackbands, dove-tail sectors, and many more. In addition Kutlo stocks natural ester oil and a broad range of transformer auxiliary equipment.

Kutlo’s Industrial Division imports, manufactures, converts and distributes a wide range of products for and to various markets segments nationally.The product range is divided into three groups, Adhesive Tapes, Extension Reels and a specialised range of

Vinyls and application tapes specifically for the signage and graphic industries.The AVASTTM brand of tapes – QUALITY TAPES THAT STICK is Kutlo’s promise of quality. The range consists

of more than 40 different product groups representing more than 2500 line items.Products forming part of the AVASTTM branded range includes: Packaging, Masking, Filament, Duct, Protection, Insulation, Aluminium, Mounting, RDA and GDA tapes.The high quality Extension Reels are suitable for industrial use. Made from steel, and is SABS approved. 22

• Kutlo’s Mechanical Division supplies and supports a range of well-known brands of industrial bearings and associated components. Kutlo also supplies high quality industrial transmission chain solutions for the Southern African market.

• The “Total Solutions Approach” at Kutlo offers a combined package of high quality products and high impact valueadded services designed to reduce machine failures, downtime and maintenance costs, thereby helping customers to achieve trouble-free operation, lower total cost of ownership and thus maximise return on investment.
