Following a brainstorming session, we came up with the brilliant idea of putting together some of our great looking PET HUSKY bottles in a handy Vaping Home Brew kit.

We talked to our vaping customers to find out what products they would like to see in the kit and we came up with what we think is a pretty comprehensive collection of bottles and

accessories to get vapers sorted with their home mixing requirements.

How Fluoro-Seal is PerformedItems to be treated are sealed in a vacuum autoclave and exposed to measured amounts of elemental fluorine gas under tightly controlled conditions. Following treatment, the autoclaves are evacuated to

high vacuum and purged with filtered fresh air to ensure the removal of all reaction residue.

The molecules of some products inside plastic can easily permeate the container walls. This can cause

product and weight loss leading to panelling. The fluro-seal process seals the entire container inside and out creating a double-sided barrier to resist permeation.

When unscrewing the cap, the ring breaks and separates from the cap so it will no longer be tamper evident. This then indicates the cap has been opened.

IS THIS BOTTLE / CAP / ACCESSORY SUITABLE FOR MY PRODUCT?We can advise on the type of plastic suitable for your product based on the general usage list below but we always strongly advise that you take a sample bottle and do a thorough fill / leak test and make sure your product is compatible with the type of plastic requested before purchasing.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT PLASTIC TYPES AND CAN THEY ALL BE RECYCLED?Sometimes PETE - Polyethylene Terephthalate is strong yet lightweight, non-reactive, economical, and shatterproof. PET’s safety for food, beverage, personal care, pharmaceutical and medical applications is recognised by health authorities around the world. Most PET plastic bottles are clear although they are available in coloured plastic too.PET plastic is recyclable and about 25% of PET bottles are recycled. The plastic is crushed and then shredded into small flakes which

are then reprocessed to make new PET bottles, or spun into polyester fiber. This recycled fibre is used to make textiles such as fleece garments, carpets, stuffing for pillows, life jackets and similar products.

High-density polyethylene is the stiff plastic used for packaging for foods like milk and snacks as well as for strong chemicals, acrylic paints, cleaning products, motor oil, shampoos and conditioners, soap bottles, acetone, detergents, and bleaches. HDPE plastic is very hard-wearing and does not break down under exposure to sunlight or extremes of heating or freezing. HDPE products are very safe, and they are not known to transmit any chemicals into foods or drinks, which is why it is the plastic of choice for milk.

Even though it is semi hard plastic bottle, it is quite squeezy. Products made of HDPE are reusable and recyclable.

Low Density Polyethylene is a low-density plastic that is very flexible and translucent. It is widely used for dispensing bottles, wash bottles, squeeze bottles and container lids.The plastic bags used in most stores today are made using LDPE plastic. LDPE is considered less toxic than other plastics, and relatively safe for use. It is not commonly recycled, however, when recycled, LDPE plastic is used for plastic lumber, landscaping boards, and floor tiles. Products made using recycled LDPE are not as hard or rigid

as those made using recycled HDPE plastic. Products made using LDPE plastic are reusable, but not always recyclable. You need to check with your local collection service to see if they are accepting LDPE plastic items for recycling.

Polypropylene is used for caps and lids, cosmetic jars and paint pots. Polypropylene plastic is tough and lightweight, and has excellent heat-resistance qualities. It serves as a barrier against moisture, grease and chemicals. Polypropylene is recyclable through some curbside recycling programs, but only about 3% of PP products are currently being recycled in the US. Recycled PP is used to make landscaping border stripping, battery cases, brooms, bins and trays. PP is considered safe for reuse

MDPE - Medium Density Polyethylene – Used as squeezy bottles for paint, cake decorating etc.

SAN - Styrene Acrylonitrile – Used for single wall jars, lip balm, butters and creams etc

WHAT IS A DIP TUBE & WILL IT FIT THE BOTTLE I AM BUYING?Dip tubes are the opaque ‘straws’ that protrude from atomisers, trigger sprayers and pumps. They ‘dip’ into the product and allow flow to the accessory when pressed. They vary in length according to cap size and are measured ‘From the Bottom of the Gasket’ (FBOG) within the cap to the end of the tube Please note - The length of the dip tube of atomisers and sprays is standard for the neck size so some trimming may be required by you to fit the size of your bottle. Please contact us if you are unsure. We can get the tubes cut or lengthened if required for an additional cost.

HOW DO I CHECK THAT A CAP WILL FIT MY BOTTLE?

The cap can be measured as below

400 = 1 thread turn • 410 = 1.5 thread turn • 415 = 2 thread turns • 425 = 2 thread turns • 430 = Thick threads

WHAT IS AN IHS CAP?

Induction sealing, otherwise known as cap sealing, is a non-contact method of heating an inner seal to hermetically seal the top of plastic and glass containers. The IHS cap will usually have a silver disc inset in the cap. This sealing process takes place after the container has been filled and capped. Note, some IHS caps are for HDPE bottles & some for PET only.

WHAT ARE TAMPER EVIDENT CAPS?

Tamper-evident caps have a plastic ring that is attached below the screw cap on the bottles. When unscrewing the cap, the ring breaks. and the ring can separate from the cap so it will no longer be tamper evident. A broken seal between the ring and the cap indicates the cap has been opened.

DO ALL CAPS FIT ALL BOTTLES WITH SAME NECK SIZE?

Certain caps are designed for certain bottles. For example, our 18mm Pointed cap is only designed to fit a bottle with a pointed plug inserted.

CAN YOU CONTROL THE FLOW OF THE TWIST TOP?

The ribbed twist top closures have a screw threaded finish. The top part of the cap has a ‘twist action’ which opens and closes by turning the top half to allow for your product to be dispensed in a controlled manner. Ideal for inks, paint, liquids, certain adhesives etc.

DO THE CAP SIZES REPRESENT THE EXTERNAL DIAMETER OF THE CAP?

No, cap sizes are the internal diameter measurement of the cap, not the external diameter.

WHAT ARE UN BOTTLES? (PAGE 22)

A United Nations classification system for containers that are used to transport anything classed as dangerous goods. Packaging must meet or exceed minimum performance standards. When a container is certified, it’s assigned a unique code and allowed to use the UN symbol which means that the container has been tested, and passed, at an approved United Nations testing station.

CAN I PUT HOT LIQUID IN A PET BOTTLE?

The short answer is no, you cannot. Standard PET plastic is not suitable for normal hot fill. The usual recommendation is that PET plastic containers are tolerant of being filled with products up to 40° C. Some people say that you can get away with slightly higher temperatures than this, but it is important to test each product for chemical and heat compatibility. The good news is that new grades of PET and new additives in the plastic are being tested even as you read this. There is hope in the plastics industry that there is good progress being made and that it is something that will be available in the near future. But we are not there yet.

WHAT IS AN EPE LINER?

EPE liners are foam liners pre-inserted into the closure. Expanded polyethylene or EPE is made from LDPE resins. EPE foam has good thermal insulation properties and is also waterproof, thus it has a large number of packaging applications.

CAN WE FREEZE PLASTIC?

We always recommend customers carry out their own product test. Freezing plastic containers can depend on the product in the container. If you put liquid in a closed bottle without leaving room in it for expansion, your container could crack or burst.

Our products come to us direct from the manufacturers. They are stored in our warehouse, and then packed and dispatched. This means that they may have picked up dust particles etc during transit and storage. We’d therefore recommend that you sterilise before usage.
