Wireless Relay Station, BS370 - NTM/KRCNB 303 01/1PD104R3 2001-09-07
GeneralThe Wireless Relay Station BS370extends the coverage area of a hostbase station without using data ca-bles.
The BS370 is connected to the hostbase station through the air interface. The host base station provides theconnection to the system.
The radio signals from the cordlessphones to the BS370 are retransmittedfrom the BS370 towards the host basestation. The host base station sendsthe signals to the system.
The other way round, the BS370 re-ceives radio signals of the host basestation and retransmits them to thecordless phones within the BS370’scoverage area.
ApplicationsWith the BS370 you can easily andquickly extend the coverage area of abase station. No data cables are re-quired.
This makes the BS370 suitable for allsituations where installing cables isdifficult or time consuming. Exam-ples of applications are: a separateparking house, a small office annexon the other side of the street, etc.
The BS370 is designed for indoor use.It can be used with the DCT1800-GAP and DCT1800-S systems, Busi-nessPhone (with integrated DECT)and MD110 (with integrated DECT).
Host base stations
The BS330 (KRCNB 301 03/n),BS340 (KRCNB 302 01/1) andDCT1800/Core base station (KRC-NB 201 type) can be used as host basestation. The host base station musthave base station software with revi-sion level R2A or higher.
It is possible to lock more than oneBS370 to the same host base station. This could be useful when there is aneed to cover large areas with lowtraffic.
Features• Base station without cable connec-
tion to system• Extension of the coverage of BS330,
BS340 or DCT1800/Core base sta-tion
• DECT GAP/CAP radio interface• Can handle 5 simultaneous calls• Powered by local AC-adapter• Supports omni-directional and di-
rectional external antennas• Connector for extra directional an-
tenna to communicate with hostbase station
• External LED status indication• Compact lightweight design

It is not possible to lock a BS370 toanother BS370.
Connection to host base stationThe BS370 can communicate with thehost base station in two ways:
• By the antennas used to communi-cate with the cordless phones
• Optionally, by an extra directionalantenna
Without an extra directional antenna, the typical configuration is as shownin figure 1 below. The BS370 has tobe in the coverage area of the hostbase station. The maximum distancebetween the BS370 and its host basestation is ca. 30 m in a building. In theopen field the distance can be muchmore, up to 300 m. The possible dis-tance depends on propagation charac-teristics.
With an extra directional antenna, theconfiguration is as shown in figure 2below. The BS370 no longer has to bein the coverage area of the host basestation. The maximum distance be-tween BS370 and host base station is1000 m.
Call handlingThe BS370 can handle 5 calls simul-taneously.
The host base station can handle 8calls simultaneously. When a call isbeing made via the BS370, the hostbase station uses 1 speech channel tocommunicate with the BS370. Thus, each call on the BS370 reduces themaximum number of simultaneouscalls on the host base station with one.
Antennas
The BS370 is equipped with twoomni-directional dipole external an-tennas. At any time during the trans-mission or reception cycle only oneantenna is active. However, fading ofthe radio signal is corrected byswitching to the other antenna fortransmission and reception. Thisswitching, also called spatial diversi-ty, can be done per time slot.
The special omni-directional anten-nas for the BS340 can also be used.
Special directional antennas are avail-able for application areas where thereis a need for more horizontal than ver-tical coverage, e.g. parking lots.
For communication with the host basestation an extra directional antennacan be used.
ConnectorsThree modular ‘jack’ type connectorsare located on the rear of the BS370:one RJ12 and two RJ45. The RJ12jack is used for configuration andservice. Either one of the two RJ45jacks can be used to power the BS370.
MountingThe BS370 can be mounted on a wall, ceiling, pole or beam, using the samemounting bracket. The bracket can besecured first. Then the BS370 can befixed on the bracket. This makesmounting and exchanging the BS370relatively simple.
PowerThe BS370 has to be powered by alocal AC-adapter. This circuitry re-quires a minimum voltage of10.8 Vdc. The maximum input volt-age that can be offered to the base sta-tion is 56 Vdc. The polarity of thesupply voltage is not important.
Software upgradeThe software of the BS370 resides inprogrammable non-volatile memory. This memory can be programmed us-ing the Base Station Manager, a Win-dows based tool. See the product dataof the Base Station Manager for moreinformation.
