Student Chef ChallengeWe are honoured to be the lead sponsor of the Country Range Student Chef Challenge competition.

Through collaborating with the Craft Guild of Chefs to run and raise the profile of the Country Range Student Chef Challenge, the aim is to work together to recognise the skills of student chefs, the lecturers and colleges across the regions and celebrate the exceptional culinary talents of the future of the UK and Irish hospitality industry.

What is the Challenge?

The Challenge targets teams of three full-time student chefs studying hospitality or catering college courses throughout the UK and Ireland and requires the preparation, cooking and presentation of a three-course, three-cover menu created around a given theme.

The Country Range Student Chef Challenge is a great opportunity to showcase the amazing talents of the student chefs within our industry and help them gain vital experience in the competition arena.


How do we decide?Our highly experienced buying team meet regularly to discuss current food trends and identify potential products based on these trends. For example, the huge “Americanisation” of menus and demand for premium products made a strong case for Country Range to launch gourmet burgers. The team also considers customer feedback and requests.

BenchmarkingNext, we identify products meeting our quality requirements and check allergens, plus ensure the supplier meets the required standards for supplying Country Range. This includes having BRC (British Retail Consortium) accreditation. Food safety is of critical importance when working in the food supply chain and the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety certification is an internationally recognised mark of food quality, safety and responsibility.

Quality controlNext, we work with the supplier and food technology consultants Micron2 to set up a critical path and to get the product agreed specification completed within the required deadlines. Micron2 weigh and measure the product and, where necessary, repeat the process after cooking to ensure product declarations are not misleading.

SamplingAs part of the launch process, samples of the product undergo testing and are checked for physical perameters and dimensions. PhotographyOur own brand co-ordinator arranges a photoshoot to photograph both the pack shots and also the product being used within a recipe. It will often be linked with other Country Range brand products to provide both inspiration and also a complete menu solution for the caterer.

MarketingInformation regarding the new product launch is collated and supplied to our sales teams across the UK ahead of launch so they can advise customers.

PULLED PORK IN BBQ SAUCE

l HEATING INSTRUCTIONS: Product is fully cooked and needs to be fully defrosted before use. Once defrosted, the product has approx. 48 hours held chilled. Simply reheat the full 1kg of meat in the oven (180°C) for 45-50 minutes or microwave 100g in just 40 seconds (1800W).

l SUITABLE FOR: Coeliacs, Nut Allergy Sufferers, Lactose Intolerant Diets.

Our frozen, marinated, slow-cooked, quality Irish pork is already mixed in a tangy barbecue sauce to save time in a busy kitchen. It simply requires defrosting and reheating.
