Common Ice Melting Components

The lowest temperaturesthat a particular ice melterworks, should refer to theactual temperature at thesurface of the pavement, notnecessarily air temperature.Wind chill, amount of sunlight,color of the treated surfacecan also affect surfacetemperature. Standardizedtests are available toestablish these temperatures.

HOT TIP

BlendsBlends are mixtures ofde-icing componentsthat enhance the icemelting capabilities ofeach individualingredient. Combiningthe attributes of lowtemperature performerslike calcium andmagnesium chloridewith the inexpensivequalities of sodium orpotassium chlorideresults in a product thatis effective and affordable. Depending on the mixture of ingredients,blends melt effectively from 20° F to -15° F.

LiquidsLiquid de-icers are available as several ice melters in varyingconcentrations. Liquids are most commonly used as pre-treatmentbefore snowfall and as a “hot mix” to enhance the performance ofsodium based de-icers. The drawback for liquids includes heatedwinter storage and the added expense for spray equipment. Liquid de-icers are effective from 20° F to -25° F depending on the materialapplied.

Established in 1994, Landtech is the irrigation design & consulting division of Kenney Outdoor Solutions. We have years of experience in providing quick, full-designs (but not over-designed!), followed by accurate MTOs (material take-offs) on projects that you bring to us. These projects might be simple retail/restaurant sites, or more complicated projects with challenging irrigation issues. Whatever it is… we are here to help you, and with quick turnaround times, too! All we ask in return is your patronage at a Kenney Outdoor Solutions store for your project needs. It’s that simple.

Landtech’s objective is to be the best possible irrigation design group for the profes-sional contractor. First, we need your help in obtaining critical project information (a site plan, water-source size & pressure, preferred equipment locations, and other special instructions). If possible, electronic files are always helpful (TIF or PDF or DWG). Then, Landtech prepares the total package and returns it to you as our deliverable.

Since 1994, we have learned what’s important to you, the contractor. In addition to put-ting together a well-designed plan that is Contractor friendly, we also understand that your projects & contacts are highly confidential. With Kenney & Landtech, your project is safe with us! We will also let you know if another contractor has brought in the same project to us for assistance.
