4 Exercise care in handlingthe battery pack in ordernot to short the batterycontacts with conductingmaterials such as rings,bracelets,and keys. Thebattery or conductor may overheat and cause burns.

5 Charge the battery packin accordance withinstructions supplied with this unit.

6 Observe proper orienta-tion between batterypack and charger contacts.

BATTERY PRECAUTIONS

To reduce the risk of fire or injury to persons, read and follow theseinstructions.

1 Use only the battery pack supplied with thisproduct.

2 Do not dispose of batterypack in a fire. The cellsmay explode.Check withlocal codes for possibledisposal instructions.

3 Do not open or mutilatebattery pack. Releasedelectrolyte is corrosiveand may cause damageto eyes or skin and maybe toxic if swallowed.

If you do not sound loudenough, move the transmitlevel switch (located on the back side of base) toposition1.

If you sound too loud, movetransmit level switch to posi-tion 3. You can further fine-tune the transmit level withthe talk volume control locat-ed on side of the base.

Adjust the volume of your co-worker’s voice by usingthe listen volume control onthe remote.

Replace the handset uponcompletion of the call andpress the talk button on eitherthe remote or the base. The in-use indicator lights will go out.

Placing a CallWith your headset in position move the telephonehandset off its cradle.

Press the talk button on either the remote or the baseunit. The in-use indicatorslight and you will hear a dial tone.

If you do not hear a dialtone, move the configurationswitch (A/B) to the oppositesetting.

If you still do not hear a dialtone see the Troubleshootingsection.

Dial a co-worker.When your party answers, speaknormally and ask how yourvoice sounds.

Receiving a CallWhen your telephone notifiesyou of an incoming call, puton your headset and lift thetelephone handset off its cradle.

Press the talk button on eitherthe remote or the base. Thein-use indicator lights will go on. Begin speaking.

Replace the handset uponcompletion of the call andpress the talk button on eitherthe remote or the base. Thein-use indicator lights will go out.

SecuringYourHeadsetAttach the clothing clip atabout the chest level. Usingthe clip keeps the weight of the headset cable off theheadset and allows you tomove freely.

This is particularily importantwhen configured in the Over-the-Ear configuration.

Optional Handset LifterThe lifter allows either theremote or base unit’s talk buttons to automatically lift or replace the telephone’shandset. See the accessoriessection of this booklet.

HOW TORE-CONFIGUREYOUR HEADSET

Your CS10 system comeswith the Plantronics Convert-ible headset. This headsetallows for use in the Over-the-Head or Over-the-Ear configuration on the rightside or left side.

The headset is shipped in theOver-the-Head configuration.You can adjust for the rightear or left ear by simply rotating the voice boom 180 degrees.

Adjust the voice boom to be about one inch from the corner of your mouth.

Disassemble for Other Configurations

Unsnap the headband fromthe headset assembly andpull off the ear cushionassembly as shown.

Over-the-EarConfigurationRight EarReassemble components asshown 1 and 2.

1. Push pivot ball ring overthe headset assembly.

2. Push pin portion of theflexible earloop through holein pivot ball ring. Reverse thepin direction for left ear.

assembly to allow the ear-loop to be stretched open toslide easily over the ear. Useyour thumb in the thumb loopand forefingers to stretch theearloop.

Once the earloop is overyour ear, push the speakertoward your ear.

Adjust voice boom to a position one inch from thecorner of the mouth.

Note: For added stability,press the headset cord underthe cord retainers on the ear-loop.

Page FunctionThe page button serves twopurposes. First, a short pressenables the remote unit toemit two long loud beeps.This allows someone to page you from the base unit.

Second, a long press of at least three seconds willenable the remote to emit acontinuous ring alert. The ringis deactivated by pressing the talk button on the remote.This is helpful if you mis-placed the remote.

Audio IndicatorsLinked – One beepis heard through the headsetwhenever the base or remotetalk button is activated.

Low Battery – Two beeps are heard, through the head-set when in the talk mode at30 second intervals, whenev-er the power is low.

Out-of-Range – Three beepsare heard, through the head-set when in the talk mode,whenever the remote is takenout-of-range of the base.

Ringer Tone Alertcan be activated when usingthe optional handset lifter. It isa tone emitted by the remotetimed with the telephoneringer and can be disabledusing the ringer switch on the remote.

Note: Disabling the audibleringer does not disable thepage function or the ringingheard through the headset.

Visual IndicatorsOn the Remote Unit

Talk (in-use) – green LED ‘On’ only when the remote or base talk button is pushed.Flashes in time with the telephone ringer when theoptional handset lifter (seeAccessories) is used.

Mute – red LED‘On’ only when transmit audio is muted.

On the Base Unit

Power – red LED‘On’ whenever power isapplied to the base via the AC power adapter.

Talk (in-use) green LED ‘On’ only when the remote or base talk button is pushed.Flashes in time with the telephone ringer when theoptional handset lifter (seeAccessories) is used.

Charge – amber LEDFlashes for two seconds veri-fying contact when remote isplaced in the base chargingwell. The light remains steadywhile charging andoff whenbattery is fully charged.

I cannot hear dial tone

■ Make sure the telephone-handset is off its cradle.

■ Make sure the remote unit is within range of the base unit.

■ Increase the listen volumecontrol.

■ Return the remote to thecharging well for 5 sec-onds to re-establish a communication link.

■ Make sure your remote is securely seated in thecharging well and/or fullycharged.

■ Separate and then reconnect the battery andremote.

■ Check that all cords arecorrectly connected andfirmly in place. Pay specialattention that handset andtelephone cords are prop-erly connected.

■ Remove and replace the AC power cord fromthe base.

My remote stopped working■ Return the remote to

the charging well for 5 seconds to re-establish a communication link.

■ Separate and then reconnect the battery and remote.

■ Remove and replace the AC power cord fromthe base.

Caller cannot hear my voice■ Adjust headset so the

voice boom is closer toyour mouth.

■ Make sure the mute buttonis off.

■ Adjust the talk volume control.

■ Try adjusting the transmitlevel switch to position 2 or 1.

I hear a buzz or hum■ Move the configuration

switch (A/B) to the opposite setting.

■ Try positioning your base in different locations andmake sure no objectsobstruct the remote orbase.

■ Locate the remote andbase away from electronicequipment or other radiofrequency devices.

■ Avaya (Lucent) Merlin,Merlin Plus®, Merlin I I®,and Merlin Legend® tele-phones, including models206, 410, 820,1030,and 3070, as well asAvaya (Lucent) Definity®

7300 and 7400 tele-phones require a specialadapter cable P/N47521-01between thetelephone and the baseunit. Please contact yourdistributor, dealer or ourwebsite for purchase.

I hear a squeal in the headset ■ Be sure the headset plug

is pushed all the way intothe remote’s headset jack.Secure the headset cordunder the cord clip on the remote.

■ Reduce the talk volumecontrol dial (located on theside of the base). If squealoccurs with the talk volumeat minimum, move thetransmit level switch (located on the back of the base) from position1 to position 2, or from position 2 to position 3,and re-adjust the talk volume control dial.

■ Be sure the headset micro-phone is pointing towardsyour mouth.

■ Reduce the listen volumecontrol by pressing the (-)button on the remote.

■ If you have multipleCA10/CS10 base units,move them as far as possible from each other.
