How did your media product represent particular social

groups?

Question 2

Spinner magazine

My magazine is suited to a niche male dominated audience who are interested in electronic music.

Therefore the images in my magazine are quite limited to what social groups I am able to represent.

Spinner magazine

In my magazine, my aim was to represent young individuals in a positive manor that broke the common stereotype of ‘trouble’ in society.

These young adults would be people who are technologically evolved and are intelligent people who aspire to improve on their everyday lives as well as in music.

I feel that I have succeeded in this aim through the images and text of my magazine.

Front Cover

Shows a positive representation of the younger generation by having a bright contrasting image where the camera looks up towards the DJ

The DJ is actively involved in the music and shows that he is able to use technology to a high public enjoyment standard.

Contents Page

The Contents page also represents young males in a positive way. All of my models are young males who all are in bright images that make them look like they have a feature of importance about them.

All the models are wearing respectable clothing and are busily interested in the technology they are using. This shows that they are aspiring to do well.

Contents Page (cont.)

Stories shown in my contents page are all describing the success or future success of the young males represented in my magazine. This is also good for the audience as they can aspire to succeed like the people in the magazine and this will effect their look on life.

Double page shows another shot of the camera ‘looking up ‘ at the model

Bright colours show an ‘upbeat’ and ‘brightness’ show vibrancy and promise from the young male social group.

Quote from David Guetta shows the quality, skill and ability recognised by a major, well known idol.

Representation

Overall I am pleased with the way in which my magazine has represented the planned social group.

The dominant stereotypical ideology sometimes ruins peoples perspective and connotations of the UK’s Young male population. I hoped that my magazine would prove them differently and show that they are actually hard working, intelligent, aspiring and well dressed people.

When people view my magazine I believe I have displayed the content to an extent that the audience would view with preferred reading. My aims were to change the stereotype and I believe I have succeeded in doing that through Spinner magazine.
