Today, I attempted to create the body of my robot companion, as well as the speakers, although the speakers were shortly scrapped for the time being, as I decided that adding the back panel to my robot would be more important for now, with the speakers being added later on.

Today, I created the top part of my robot companion that sits on top of the main body. I created a box that was divided into sections, then used multishift to pull some of the polygons that were in the centre of the box upwards to create a stand for the antennae. I then created the antennae by layering disks over each other equally, using the grid in the background as a guide, and then mirroring them. I also began work on the speakers during this session.

Today, I finished off the speakers that I started in my last session, making sure that I surfaced both the interior and exterior of the speakers separately. I then started work on the hover pads on the bottom of the robot. I created these pads by creating a disk shape, then bevelling the polygon to create the correct shape. I then did the same for the pads that go on the back panel, making sure that they were equal to the pads that were on the speakers. I then surfaced them.

Today, I began work on the wheels of my robot, which act as a secondary mode of transport for short distance travel. I also worked on the front panel of the robot, which included the screen and controls of the robot. I used a box modelling technique on the front panel, to indicate where the screen and controls are, but used primitive shapes to create the controls

Today, I started work on finalising my model. I added the finishing touch by adding the controllers to the sides of the speakers. I used primitive shapes to build up the shape of the controllers. I also surfaced the controllers so they could be textured easily when I take the model to modeller

Today, I put my model into Layout and began to position and texture my model. I tried to use some of the preset textures

Today, I fixed a problem with model where the antennae stand won’t model correctly. I melded the points together that weren’t working correctly, and then put the model back into Layout. I also began to work on adding more textures to my robot companion

- Positioned the camera- Added more textures
Today, I positioned the camera so I know what the textures look like from every angle when I apply them. I also applied more textures from the preset menu. I also attempted to use the node editor to create textures, although they were scrapped.

Today, I created my robot’s face in Photoshop, which will be applied to the screen, to give my robot more of a personality. I used the shape tool in order to create the eyes, and used the brush tool for the eyeliner and mascara. To create the mouth, I used a rotated letter C, typed in the font Calibri. I was originally going to use a heart for the mouth, but didn’t like how it looked.

Here, I edited my image to make it appear more distorted and grainy, adding to the retro feel that I wanted my robot to have.

Here, I applied the face texture to my robot by using the surface editor. I added more luminosity to my robot’s face to make it appear more like a screen.

Here, I found a grill texture that can be used on the main panel of my robot, just next to the dials.

Here, I applied the grill texture onto the robot, in the same way I applied the screen.

Here, I found a speaker texture that will be used on the interior of my robot’s speakers, to make them look like speakers.

Here, I changed the colour of the speaker texture to blue. When applying the speaker texture to the speakers, I didn’t like how it looked on the model and wouldn’t apply properly, so I decided to draw my own.

Here, I created the speaker texture, which loops around continuously. I then applied the texture in the same way as I did the others. I much prefer this texture to the other texture as it looks far nicer and has a better colour.

Here, I found a new wood texture to apply to my robot, as I don’t like the brown texture that I applied using node textures.

Here, I edited the original image to make it blue, so it matches the front panel of the robot.

Here I applied the wood texture in the same way as I did the others, with the only difference being that I changed the projection from ‘planar’ to ‘cubic’ so the textures work better with my mainly square shaped model.

Here, I did the final piece of surfacing on my robot. Here, I textured the controllers on the sides of the robot using textures from the preset menu. I made the controllers to match the TV, and used a glass texture on the screens.
