Content
Leading company of electricity and thermal energy in Latvia.
Produce more than half of the country’s electricity.
Electricity comes from renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources.
AS „Latvenergo”
Hydroelectric power stations
The newest hydroelectric power station of the river Daugava.
The great attention is paid to the safety of hydraulic structures: High safety of the ground dams Special computer program that monitors and
analyzes dams. Frequently, the construction of concrete
structures and surface restoration is made.
Hydroelectric power station of Riga
RigasHPS
Is the oldest and the third largest hydroelectric power station in Latvia.
Of the required 52 million lats, 4 million gave the government of Latvia, but the remaining was the donation from Latvian people.
In 2011, it produced 531,8 GWh of electric power.
Hydroelectric power station of Ķegums
Keguma HPS
In terms of capacity it is the largest hydroelectric power station in the Baltic States and the second largest in the European Union.
In 2012, it produced 2067 GWh of electric power.
Hydroelectric power station of Pļaviņas
Pļaviņas
Plavinas
It was the first that started to produce electric power in country, in 1925.
Its common capacity is 0,8 MW, and it produces 3 GWh electric power in a year.
Hydroelectric power station of Aiviekste
Thermoelectric power stations
Both thermoelectric power stations works in cogeneration system, which is the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly form of energy production.
Rīgas TPC-1 un Rīgas TPC-2
Thermoelectric station
Wind electric power station Ainaži was set up in 1996, it was the largest one with capacity around 1.2 MW.
Now these wind generators are set up also in other places in Latvia, mostly around the coast. One of the largest wind generator park is in Grobiņa.

One of the largest green energy producers in Latvia.
The source of energy – gas, which is formed by waste deposits in the polygon.
The burned gas uses to heat the buildings and greenhouses
In greenhouses grow tomatoes and strawberries.
Utilization of the «Getliņi» gas

Solar and in Latvia is not so widespread; mostly individuals have ones, because solar and heat pump reduces cost of electricity.
