Production Outline
I Am... All of Me
Introduction
• The overall production of the piece is broken down into a number of phases.
• Each phase has a number of steps, and each step provides plenty of unique and exciting problems.
PHASE 1: Preparation
Acquiring Props (I’M THE KNIIIIGHT OF THE WIND)
• Props needed include a guitar, a sword and a gun.
• Guitar: My gorgeous Black Knight:
• I still need to find sword and gun props.
Acquiring Actors
• Actors are myself and my friend Stephen. I am the performer/lead character; Stephen is the guy I am trying to attack.
Deciding on Costume
• Stephen is going to be dressed in casual clothes.
• I will be in dark clothes – this fits with one of the conventions of modern rock artists’ images –here we see Johnny Gioeli and Matt Bellamy:
Location
• If all goes to plan the performance part will be filmed in front of the green screen in school.
• Location for the narrative parts to be confirmed – though they may have to be in privately owned areas because running around with things that look like guns and swords in public isn’t a good idea.
Charging the Cameras
• This is useful when trying to film.
PHASE 2: Filming
Cinematography
• Will probably need to borrow additional cameras for the performance section.
• This is because continuity is especially important in these parts as errors will be more noticeable.
• Ensuring there are no continuity errors will be easier if each angle comes from the same take.
Cinematography
• Performance shots will need to be done with a single camera with multiple takes.
• This is for practical purposes – there will be a lot going on and in a multi-camera setup the cameras would probably get in each other’s way.
PHASES 3-9001: Editing
Lighting
• The dark/light effect will be artificial lighting added in post-production.
• This is because I want the effect to be harsh, extreme lighting which cannot be achieved in natural conditions.
• This can be applied using colour correction tools in FCP.
Transitions
• Each transition throughout the piece is to be a standard cut.
• This is to keep a solid pace to the video; more complex transitions such as fades would slow down this pacing.
Identifying Problems
• The editing phase allows me to look at each shot in the context of the final piece – so any continuity errors/awkward shots etc. become apparent here.
• Therefore I know which parts need refilming/creative editing.
Rendering
• I hereby pledge to spend a minimum of 10 hours of my life waiting for Final Cut Pro to render my work.
