About ENCODE
ENCODE is a design by research studio created by the collaboration of young architects dedicated to explore innovative design systems on different scales from ob-ject to fi eld aiming for a more signifi cant Egyptian pres-ence in the global design market. Based on the math-ematical and material logic of natural systems Encode investigate various digital and physical computational tools exploring the potentials of digital design and fab-rication techniques to correlate education, profession and design industry.
ENCODE team believes in research as a catalyst of in-novation in the design industry. During last few years, ENCODE team conducted a series of workshops, semi-nars and lectures in computational design and fabrica-tion in Alexandria, London, Vienna, Beijing. Also they have been involved in academic, organizational and professional collaborations with specialists in digital de-sign and fabrication industry in Egypt, Germany, Italy, Palestine, China and UK. During these collaborations ENCODE has found nature as a rich world of inspiration through its mathematical and material logic.
With strategic industry partners and collaborators, we would be able to develop this knowledge through ex-ploratory workshop environments that focus on learning through making with the latest digital design and fab-rication systems through team based projects, dealing with the translation of ideas into atoms, shifting scales between study models & 1:1 fabrication prototypes.

Ornamatics* A new vision for Islamic patterns
Patterns have been always a distinctive part of our daily life products, whether it is ornamental or functional, it often em-beds cultural and historical values. Islamic patterns evolved over centuries while branding our heritage not only as an art/craft object but also as a geometrical and mathematical innovation. The evolution of the legacy is fading due to the shortage of craftsmanship and also for the lack of devel-opment of its design/mathematics. Encode challenges the reviving of the valuable legacy by exploring new path ways through experimentation in cutting edge mathematical de-sign systems and fabrication techniques.
Encode introduce as series of Islamic patterns that incor-porate the traditional themes with contemporary and mod-ern spirit, colors and materials. The aim is to stimulate the viewer eye to reveal the hidden order of the patterns and its shadows, and to encourage the collective emotional re-sponse that the act of meditation inspires. The pattern sys-tem is introduced through a wide range of scales and ma-terials for home, offi ce, commercial applications including curtains, windows screens, display units, tables, partitions, lighting units, tableware and jewelry.

“Frozen Tone” is an urban artistic installation (Pavil-ion) that merges architecture, music; performance and mathematics in a solid form yet interactive with the public. Music and architecture are two faces of one reality where both lead people to experience the journey of life with time as a main factor in dis-covering them.
Both architecture and music express values like rhythms, hierarchy and proportions using two differ-ent languages. “Frozen Tone” challenges the sep-aration of the two fi elds by exploring the common mathematical logic embedded in both sides. The materialization of music will come true by develop-ing the hidden mathematical order of music into a solid state using a special programming language used by architects and musicians to generate forms and melodies which lightens up a path for collabo-
