ENGINEERING BULLETIN… FEB 2015 (Vol 1)
Dunham-Bush is developing the new series of energy efficient chiller using
the oil free magnetic bearing technology, the PROmetheus series. The
PROmetheus series is part of Dunham Bush successful R&D and
continuous effort to develop and manufacture product of high efficiency and
reliability. Some of the PROmetheus product series features are:-
Equipment : Magnetic Bearing Chiller
Model : PROmetheus (DCLC-M)
Description : New Product Development
State of-the-art compressor technology
High efficiency with superior IPLV
Easy maintenance
Super quiet with low vibration
HFC-134a refrigerant
Oil free with magnetic bearing
The prototype unit has been supplied to a project in Miami USA. The unit
has replaced an existing water cooled screw chiller as part of an upgrading
and energy efficiency exercise. It has been running successfully since Aug
2014 with superior energy efficiency, low noise with less maintenance. The
PROmetheus series is expected to be officially launch soon with capacity
ranges from 120-600RT.

Dunham-Bush engineering and R&D team is
developing the prototype unit to be display in
an exhibition in June 2015. The new Falcon
series will put Dunham-Bush ahead of the
competitors with product of energy saving, high
efficiency and reliability. The product is
expected to be officially launch by this year.

As part of Dunham-Bush continuous improvement, we have released the
new generation of SPEC selection software with new features and
enhancements. In this new generation, the SPEC selection software is split
into different versions, with each version assigned for dedicated product
line. This will improve the updates and enhancements of each product lines
as well as making it user friendly.

Continuous research and development (R&D) on Dunham-Bush air cooled
split unit has resulted in the improvement of the maximum allowable
equivalent length and elevation for the ACCS/EB Series for 50/60hz with
R22/R407C refrigerant, as indicated in the table 2 below.
This shall supersedes the table in page 13, IOM# MM0305F/MM0307A
with immediate effect. The new revised IOM may be downloaded through
the RepNet portal.

APPLICATION BULLETIN… FEB 2015 (Vol 1)
Equipment : Air Handling Unit
Model : CS3
Description : Thermal Break Application
Thermal Break feature consists of casing construction with frames of
extruded aluminium profiles joined by nylon corner pieces, and sandwich
panel with PVC strip in between inner and outer layer. The unit
construction with no direct metal to-metal contact between paneling and
framework thus minimizing cabinet condensate.
Thermal break featured AHU prevents the unit
external condensation that causes AHU to 'sweat'
or condensate easily. One may ask with the
application of thermal break featured AHU, does it
mean that the AHU is no longer 'sweating‘ at all,
no matter whether it is located outdoor or indoor
with warm or even cold ambient air?
The answer is…
NO…! It does not mean that the AHU is no longer 'sweat’ or condensate
when thermal break construction is applied. It depends on some
parameters such as the ambient air temperature (T-amb) of the AHU room
and the AHU internal cold air temperature (T-in) after cooling coil.
Although thermal break construction can reduce the effect of
condensation as compare to conventional construction.
T-amb
T-in
T-in = Off coil temperature
T-amb = Outside AHU temperature

Description : Thermal Break Application
Cabinet external condensation curves for the Conventional
Steel/Aluminium is shown on the Psychometric Chart below. 3 curves are
plotted to represent the internal cold temperatures, which is normally the
off-cooling coil temperature i.e. 490F, 550F and 600F.
Any ambient air condition (where AHU is located) above the curve,
condensation occurs on external cabinet. On the contrary, it the ambient air
condition below the curve, condensation will not form on the AHU external
cabinet.

Description : Thermal Break Application
Thermal break casing are able to improve the cabinet external
condensation curves as shown on the Psychometric Chart below. These
will reduce the condensation effect on some applications. However, it may
not prevent condensation in some critical applications. Therefore, a study of
the parameters (T-in, T-amb) plotted on the Psychometric Chart shall be
take into consideration to ensure no condensation will occurs especially on
critical applications. Some of the examples of critical applications are:-
1) Ducted Return Air Application
2) High Percentage Fresh Air Application
