Inventors of Laser Shaft AlignmentMinor cause, major impact

When shafts are well-aligned – with their axes in a straight line – machines runsmoothly. Misalignment is the underlying cause for around 50% of all machine fail-ures. The ensuing downtime, production losses and repairs can generate staggeringcosts. The answer to these problems is provided by laser-based measurement systems.

ALI 2000 – First alignment computer forshaft alignment with an LCD graphic display

    OPTALIGN® – The world’s first laser-optical shaft alignment system

PERMALIGN® – First laser-optical coordinates measuringsystem for four degrees of freedom

SYSTEM 2 – First multifunctional measuring device with a softkey user interface,plug-in program and memory cards, and plug-in hardware modules

ROTALIGN® – First shaft alignmewith patented Sweep measuring

First laser-optical 5-axial sensor thattransmits results via a wireless IR system

CENTRALIGN® – First measuring systemfor determining turbine housing alignment

    EDDYTHERM® – First microprocessor-controlled induction heating device

Correct machine alignment is centrally important to smoothoperations and high product quality. To ensure that ma-chines are correctly positioned, and to correct those thatare not, maintenance specialists around the world rely onour high precision laser measurement systems:

    during machine installation

    when commissioning machines

    after refitting

    after repairs

As the inventor of laser-optical shaft alignment, PRÜFTECH-NIK began leading the way in industrial maintenance morethan 30 years ago. With 300 patents, we are persistentlyadvancing our technological leadership. Through our dailydialog with customers, and innumerable assignments anddiscussions on location, we ensure that our future develop-ments will continue to meet the increasing demands placedon modern maintenance.

Alignment of bores and bearing shells

The straightness and flat-ness of surfaces, founda-tions, machine beds, tablesand flanges can be mea-sured down to 1/1000 of amillimeter.

Straightness and flatness measurementParallel rolls in paper ma-chines are critical for paperquality. A new, patentedprocedure makes it possiblefor first time to quickly ob-tain precise information onthe exact position of therolls in a system.

    Roll parallelism measurement

Very small positionalchanges in machines can berecorded by a non-contact-ing method during opera-tion. Machine operators usethis information to initiateappropriate measures tocompensate for shifts inposition.

Monitoring of positional changesAlignmentCenter is the PCsoftware common to allalignment systems. It can beused to clearly visualize themeasurement results ingraphic displays, and torecord and archive the data.

    AlignmentCenter – the complete program

Shaft alignmentOur laser-based, contact-free alignment systemsmeasure to a precision ofone thousandth of a milli-meter. They calculate thecorrection values needed toachieve good alignmentand record the alignmentcondition.

Laser systems now make itpossible to objectivelydetermine whether or notcircular machine compo-nents – as they are used inturbines – are truly circular, and record the informationfor future use.

Our customers are manufacturers of semi-finished metalproducts who employ our testing equipment in the qualitycontrol of the following products:

    Tubes

    Wire

    Bars

    etc.

These producers, in turn, supply a diverse range of indus-tries that rely on top quality semi-finished material, includ-ing the transport, automotive and construction sectors, toname but a few.

More than 30 years of experience have turned us into aglobal market leader in the testing of semi-finished prod-ucts:

    Quality control

    High sensitivity testing

Our application engineers work closely with customers todevelop customized testing solutions, including completeturnkey systems, and personally look after project planningand implementation.

    Tube mills

NDT testing equipmenttests cold heading wire be-fore it enters a cold former, without interrupting theproduction process. Afterforming, the defectiveparts are automaticallysorted out.

    Formed parts manufacturers

Wire drawing lines and re-coiling plants employ eddycurrent testing togetherwith rotating systems, which excel in the reliabledetection of longitudinaldefects and grooving.

    Wire producers

    Bar mills

Water-cooled sensors areused in eddy current test-ing at temperatures of upto 1200 °C and at veryhigh speeds to create flawstatistics and monitor theproduction process.

    Hot rolling mills

Special sensors and testersdeveloped specifically forthis field enable the inspec-tion of thick-walled tubing.

    Special tube applications

Tube manufacturers useNDT devices coupled witha variety of sensors fortube leakage testing. Thetesting method meets therequirements of recognizedinternational standards.

Producers of high qualitysteel bar rely on the latestNDT product, a magneticflux leakage tester, forfinding very small cracksand imperfections on blackand bright steel bar.
