Selection of Existing Product:-
The main aim of Phase one is to work on the existing blacksmith product developed. There is
hardly any innovation in the shape and development of the product. The existing products
consist of traditional design and the product is only used for rural people only. There were
many error in the product developed. So development of product was essential and to reduce
the error in the product. We want to develop diversified product which could be accepted by
urban people as well as rural. So some existing product was selected for design innovation.
Selected Existing products: Barpeta Dau (Long and big knife), Dagger, Kasi (Grass Cutter), Kotari
(Knife used for kitchen work), Seedha Dau, Bothi, Hakta and Nepali Khukri.

Selection of Raw materials for product development:-
The artisan of Kamartola Cluster usually used ultra high carbon steel (approx 1.0 – 2.0 % carbon content)
which comes from the scrap part of heavy vehicle and easily available. This metal is malleable and can
be beaten and drawn due to apt carbon present in it.
