+ Available to international graduates and the opportunity to take your skills across the globe.

As a graduate entering the construction industry in 2009, the CIOB PDP outlined a clear framework to develop the individuals competence and knowledge in the built environment. This has helped me understand and recognise how specific learning activities fit into the wider context of the built environment which contributed to my personal and professional development. Since completing the PDP, this has made me become more effective, independent and confident in my ability to express my opinions on matters. Apart from recording the evidence, it has disciplined my thought process in terms of analysing situations and seeing the bigger picture. I have developed an attitude on seeking continuous personal and professional development which has provided me a positive attitude towards career management.

WHOThe PDP is for:

+ Graduates with a construction-related honours degree including non-accredited degrees

+ Graduates with a non-construction related honours degree and working within the industry

+ Part-time students undertaking a construction related degree

+ International graduates with accredited degrees or have already gained Incorporate membership via an Individual Assessment

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?Self-assessment

You’ll be provided with a self- assessment form so you can see what skills you have already gained and what you need to achieve for the future.

Development

When, as a result of self-assessment, you know the skills you still need to become a chartered member, you’ll be able to discuss development needs with your employer. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is also an important factor, and is recorded throughout your programme.

Portfolio Development

A body of work-based evidence is built via your e-portfolio, which makes use of a set of criteria you’ll be required to meet. The e-portfolio will monitor your progress so you can easily see where you are, and what units to work on next.

SUPPORTSupport from your company

Your employer will provide you with an assessor who will regularly assess the work you put forward for your portfolio and help to ensure you gain the experience required to complete the programme and gain chartered membership.

Your assessor will be a Chartered member, CIOB, or another construction-related institute. With all our experience in the industry, we are there to help you manage your programme effectively.

The e-portfolio allows assessments to be made remotely and the whole programme can be completed this way. However, many candidates and companies find there is a lot of value in face-to-face meetings. You and your assessor can decide on what’s best for you personally.

Support from CIOB

We’ll assign you an approved Internal Verifier who will regularly check the assessments being made. Your Verifier will also support and encourage you through to completion of your portfolio, ensuring the evidence you put forward is relevant and of the right quality.

CIOB Events

Each of our branches has a Novus group running regular events for graduates and young professionals to help you maintain your CPD and to give you the opportunity to network.

GETTING STARTEDFirst you will need to apply online for Incorporated Membership.

E-PORTFOLIO BENEFITSAccess to the e-portfolio is easy – when and where you want it. iPhone and iPad apps are available for use on the go.

Assessments can be made whenever and wherever they’re needed.
