HCFA REMOVES PHYSICIAN SUPERVISION REQUIREMENT FORNURSE ANESTHETISTSThe ruling by the Health Care Financing Administration to remove the federalrequirement for nurse anesthetists to be supervised by physicians when caring forMedicare patients has been called “smart healthcare policy” by the AmericanAssociation of Nurse Anesthetists. The new ruling will ensure access to safe, high-quality anesthesia care in medically underserved areas.
