Meadows Museum, Sothern Methodist University 1999 - 2002
Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge, Incorporated
Southern Methodist University decided to couple the expansion of a new football stadium located
just to the north with the creation of a new cultural institution on campus. The Meadows Museum
was built above a garage platform housing the 600 new parking spaces required by the enlarged
stadium. Facades of collegiate Georgian detailing in brick and cast stone merge with the campus
context while a broad plaza atop the podium defines a rarified space for viewing art.
I was part of the five person team responsible for Schematic Design. The team was expanded to
ten people during the Design Development phase. I rejoined the project during Construction
Administration and I monitored building progress with J. Lawton Thies, the project architect.

Exelon Pavilions 2002 - 2004
Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge, Incorporated
Site Plan of Millennium Park with the Exelon Pavilions in red.
The Exelon Corporation, in association with the city of Chicago, commissioned a pair of pavilions in Millennium Park. The goal was to showcase a cooperative venture that would promote renewable energy resources within Chicago. The Pavilions provide exhibition space, office areas, and access to Chicago Park District parking facilities below grade. The exterior cladding of each Pavilion is comprised of custom photovoltaic panels glazed within an integrated curtain-wall system. At its completion, this was one of the largest “building integrated” photovoltaic projects ever attempted in the United States.
My role in the project extended from Schematic Design through Contract Documentation. As partof a three person team including Cyrus Subawalla, the project architect, I helped produced a fullset of documents. Mr. Subawalla and I jointly managed the Bidding process and constructionphases. During construction, vehicular traffic and pedestrian access to parking under the pavilionshad to remain open. This added a high level of complexity during construction of an already complicated, LEED certified pair of buildings.
Project Specifications:
Renovated area - 11,000 sf.Project cost - $3,456,070Awards - Rated LEED Silver

Johannisviertel: Quartier am Tacheles 2001 - 2003
Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge, Incorporated
Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge was invited by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company to design one of
five major buildings that comprised the Quartier am Tacheles project.
The site for this master-planned, urban infill intervention occupies the majority of a derelict area
near the heart of Berlin. This zone was largely destroyed during World War Two and remained
unbuilt until the fall of East Germany. An existing, war-damaged Tacheles department store
remains on the site. In recent history, the Tacheles building has become both a tourist attraction
and a home for emerging artists. Johannisviertel plans to redevelop the Tacheles into an integral
part of the surrounding neighborhood. Our project is immediately adjacent to the Tacheles building
and seeks to engage both the contextual fabric and the proposed new buildings by Duany
Plater-Zyberk, Robert Stern and Leon Krier. Seven floors of residences and a ground floor of retail
have been planed with a focus on meeting or exceeding Germany’s stringent environmental
requirement for water and energy conservation.
Working directly with the Project Architect Lawton Theis, I was an integral part of the project team
from concept through construction documentation. The project is on hold pending a favorable
financial climate.

Bloomington Performing Arts Center 2003 - 2006
Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge, Incorporated
The Scottish Rite Temple in Bloomington Illinois was built in 1921 for the American Passion Play. At the time, the theater featured the largest stage west of New York. After roughly 80 years ofcontinuous use, the Temple required a major overhaul. The building was renovated, renamed anda new addition was added in an effort to reestablish a cultural district in the north end ofBloomington’s downtown. The Bloomington Center for Performing Arts now featuresstate-of-the-art acoustics and the flexibility to handle a wide range of music, dance and spokenword performances.
As project manager with two junior staff members, I worked closely with the project architect,Douglas Sandberg, and my role on the project encompassed all aspects of design andconstruction. I was instrumental in getting the new addition in line with the client’s budget bysignificantly redesigning the exterior envelope to bring down costs.

Harris Theater for Music and Dance 1999 - 2003
Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge, Incorporated
The Harris Theater for Music and Dance is a state-of-the-art performance venue designed to
provide superior technical facilities and exceptional acoustics for a wide variety of Chicago area
arts organizations, as well as, internationally know touring companies and artists.
I was asked to provide one of several conceptual proposals for the original site of this project.
Subsequently, I was responsible for hand drafting the numerous iterations of plans and
elevations produced as the project site moved repeatedly. During the course of this project our
office converted to a primarily digital environment and I was asked to develop an office wide set
of standards and protocols for computer aided drafting. These standards are still in use today.
I returned to the Harris Theater project during the Construction Administrative phase and
oversaw the second shift construction progress at the site. Observing work progress, monitoring
quality and reviewing shop drawings were some of my duties while stationed at the site trailer.
Project Specifications:
Number of seats - 1525
Proscenium width - 45 ft.
Proscenium height - 30 ft.
Stage depth - 45 ft.

Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church 2004 - 2005
Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge, Incorporated
The Indianapolis firm of Hill and Wupper designed the original church in 1959. In 2002 the
congregation came to the realization that they had outgrown the existing building. Hammond
Beeby Rupert Ainge was asked to expand the classrooms and fellowship hall while modernizing
the sanctuary and main entry sequence of the building.
I was asked to provide one of several conceptual proposals for redesigning the sancuary and
expanding the church school. My design was influenced by the architecture of the existing church
and by the greater context of Columbus, Indiana. The congregation appreciated this approach.
My role in the project extended from Schematic Design through Contract Documentation. Under
the supervision of Mary O’Toole, the project architect, I produced a full set of documents and
coordinated with the structural engineer and contractor / construction manager for the project.
Project Specifications:
Renovated area - 5,000 sf.
New construction - 15,000 ft.

The Krehbiel Estate has been an ongoing work in progress. Several additions have been made to
the property, several adjacent properties have been annexed and several out buildings have been
added as the grounds around the main residence have expanded. The clients have repeatedly
commissioned Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge for various projects and I was tapped to assist
Thomas and Kirsten Beeby in the design of two separate projects on the site.
I produced all documentation for both the Pool house and Garden House & pavilions. With
Mary O’Toole as project Architect, I also oversaw construction of all four pavilions including a
3,000 square foot Pool House and a 2,500 square foot Garden House.
