Professional Promise Reflection I am beyond humbled and grateful to submit letters of promise provided by Meghan Ashbrock, a fellow classmate in the program who also serves as a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Critical Scholarship on Higher Education (JCSHESA). Meghan has played a large role in my journey throughout this program through our involvement with JCSHESA and also the many classes we have taken together and projects we have tackled together. As a result, I am thankful for her continued support extended through this letter. Monica Cohen currently serves as the Advisor within Achieving College Excellence (ACE), a TRiO SSS program at Loyola and is someone who has supported me both personally and professionally as a colleague and friend. Monica and I also share very similar passions regarding college access, success and the retention of first-generation students. As I reflect on these letters, I am reminded of a Maya Angelou quote: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” While letters reveal my promise for the field, as assessed by these two folks,

While letters reveal my promise for the field, as assessed by these two folks, and also exemplify some achieved program learning outcomes, including reflective leadership and communication skills, what is most significant to me are the meaningful relationships behind these letters of support. I am thankful to have had Monica and Meghan by my side during this program. Much like many of the other artifacts within this portfolio, these letters will serve as a constant reminder of my commitment to the field, as seen through the eyes of two people I respect greatly, and will represent the development I have undergone throughout graduate school, something I want to never loose sight of.
