“Throughout my university study, CityU BBA program had offered me with ample
opportunities to learn new things. Through various project works, study tours,
competitions and student activities organized by the program, I got to work and blend
with the local students. Not only did I learn from them about Hong Kong’s culture but
also the spoken dialect, Cantonese. These, in addition to solid business knowledge
and professional trainings provided by the BBA program, have greatly helped me in
paving my career path.”
Elaine Hu
“In 2009, I completed my university study in Business Economics in City University of
Hong Kong and started working at the Swiss private bank, Julius. Through all these
years of learning various subjects, I find the world of finance to be the most exciting.
I believe analytical skills, with good knowledge of statistics and mathematics, are
important to my career. From private banking to consulting and finally to quant
modelling, I never stop learning new things. I believe it is the only way to find out what
you are truly passionate about and where your future career goes.… Fortunately, I
found my ideal career through endless learning.”
Zhang Chi Jerry
“Being able to stand out from 3000 job applicants of a MNC is not easy. Courses
offered by IS Department helped me in building a solid foundation in areas like SEM,
SEO, keyword search, CPC, CPM, etc. The courses are very up-to-date with business
trends (e.g. IS4246 Digital Marketing and CRM, GE1206 Accelerating Professional
Growth on the Web) which enabled me to impress interviewers from Facebook for my
graduate job in Client Solutions Analyst.
To join MNC, global vision is essential, IS Department and CB supports students to
explore globally by providing unique internship chances and scholarships, e.g. I have
been to USA and South Africa to do cultural exchange, which built up my global soft
skills and made me more independent.”

“Business knowledge is undoubtedly crucial for a job in the business sector. I would
say social and communication skills are equally important for a successful career,
especially when we have to work as a team. CB provided me not only professional
knowledge and a broad business sense, but also the chance to develop my
interpersonal skills through a series of activities. I found that what I gained from CB is
practical and relevant to my workplace.”
Elaine Ng
“The program provides us with a practical learning experience with global exposures such as
exchange programs and interflow tours; recognitions such as scholarships and awards, and
solid work experience such as internships and placements. We were given opportunities to
be exposed to a large variety of commercial settings. All these experiences groom us to be an
all rounded person and an outstanding candidate in the job market. Hence we stand a better
chance of succeeding.”
Ryan Chang
“Study hard, play hard” is normally the perception of students. More importantly, in
CityU, people there care much about students’ personal growth. Other than acquiring
an analytical mind and on-the-job skills, we have also gained lots of support and
encouragement from the teachers. CityU has worked hard to nurture year by year groups
of young talents who are strong in their minds and ready to join in the workforce.

First Year Teaching and Learning
The first year at university is an important transition for students as they adapt to
new ways of learning in a new academic environment. To help students cope with
the challenges they face, we have strategically redesigned our curricular and co-
curricular initiatives which comprise the following PRIDE themes:
• Personalized instruction where each individual matters
• Rich learning experiences
• Integrative learning
• Dedicated instructors
• Ethics oriented learning
A Team Effort
A culture of collaboration among teachers is crucial to creating an integrated first-
year learning experience. We seek to achieve this through:
• teachingandlearningforumsinvolvingall first-year instructorsandtutors
organized at the beginning of each semester
• regular lunchgatheringsfor first-year instructorstoshareexperienceand
good practices
Embedded Ethics Education
Our approach to ethics education:
• Adoptedfivecorevalues,i.e.integrity, responsibility, fairness, respect, and
compassion
• Ethicalissuesandcorevaluesareembeddedintofirstyearcourses
• Workshopsand forums for instructorsareheldat thebeginningofeach

• Setupan“EthicsHomepage”ontheFirstYearTeachingandLearningWebsite
which functions as a repository for resources related to ethics education
Student Advising Scheme
The Student Advising Scheme is designed to assist first-year BBA students in
addressing their concerns or queries by means of academic advising, mentoring
support, resources provision, and other recommendations. The mission of SAS
is to prepare students for lifelong learning by empowering them to develop
and implement sound educational strategies that promote their academic,
professional and personal development. It is hoped that students will develop
themselves to be self-directed learners and decision makers through this shared
advisory process between advisors and advisees.
