NZNO NewsWarm greetings and wishes for the festive seasonNZNO’ professional services team joins in wishing you, our members, and your families all the best for the festive season. It is a time for celebration of family and life. We know that most of you will be providing nursing services to others over the holiday period. It can be a sad time for many, made more poignant by the meaning of Christmas and focus on families, and you will be the key to providing support to families under stress. Go well in that vital nursing work and take the time to enjoy others and care for yourself. You deserve that time of reflection and pleasure.

Models of CareModels of care are changing whether they be broad models of service provision or narrower models of nursing service delivery. As part of the NZNO vision for nursing: 2020 and beyond project, the models of care policy framework to support moving our vision forward is in development. The research advisory paper on the initial phase of that policy framework development will be released shortly. This will be followed by a Models of Care Policy Framework consultation document. Your feedback is important to firm that policy framework so that it guides NZNO action in the future so read it and respond - please.

Nursing GraduatesNZNO has been leading the public challenge on employment of new nursing graduates and access to NEtP programmes. You will have heard the stories, perhaps read the personal accounts of members on our NZNO FaceBook page, and Hilary Graham-Smith has become a media star in championing the cause publicly for our future nurses. On Friday 29 November NZNO representatives joined other nursing leaders at a meeting hosted by HWNZ to discuss the future nursing workforce. A number of priority goals emerged from the day including moving toward a vision for 100% employment of new graduate nurses supported by NEtP funding. It is a top priority for all national nursing organisations. More about the workshop outcomes will be available in Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand.

Wellington PHC Ten Year PoemThe following poem was written by Anne Brinkman, Professional Nursing Advisor for the 10 year celebration of the Primary Health Care reference group.

Forward from our past

There once were a handful of primary galsKing’s strategy released to guide their sailsSo we gathered togetherAcross sites and all weatherReady to blaze across unfunded trails

Those first primary gals were forming a groupIt might have been easier as circus and troupeBut making a plan from the get-goWe pulled it together and started the glowSpreading the word and creating our loop

We soon learned that the docs scored the most dashFor governance, outcomes, and access to cashWe nurses stood tall watching the scoreKnowing that we could deliver far moreThe patients grateful for more care without clash

Then Eldred arrived striding the walksEntertaining us all with real plans and fun talksPlanning & Funding held the purse tightNPs were hatching, casting new lightThe group grew more strength with credits to chalk

The reference group has become the normFor counsel, advice, and countering the stormIsolated no more the nurses can leadThe way into the future meeting the needSo, best wishes to all as you streamline your form
