Ken Wharfe was born in Canterbury Kent and joined the Metropolitan Police Service as a special cadet at the age of 17. He attained the rank of Inspector before being selected to join Scotland Yard’s elite Royalty Protection Department. The SAS trained officer was chosen to head up the security for the Queen’s grandchildren, heir apparent Prince William and Prince Henry who as children, affectionately called him ‘Uncle Ken’. A year later in 1987 he was appointed a Personal Protection Officer to the Princess of Wales. In charge of the Princess’s around the clock security at home and abroad, in public and private, Ken Wharfe became a close friend and loyal confidant who shared her most private moments. His resignation in November 1993 made headline news. Just weeks later the Princess announced she was withdrawing from public life and then axed her Scotland Yard Protection, a decision her former ‘Top Cop’ as the British press referred to him – believes ultimately led to her death. Ken Wharfe was appointed to oversee the internal security to Princess Diana’s funeral at Westminster Abbey, attended by over four hundred heads of state. Just months after Diana’s death in Paris on August 31 1997, Inspector Wharfe was honoured by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace and made a Member of the Victorian Order, a personal gift of the Sovereign for his loyal service to her family. Until his retirement after 35 years of exemplary service with the Metropolitan Police, nearly half in the Royalty Protection Department, he was Personal Protection Officer to the Queen’s cousin, The Duke of Kent. His book ‘Diana – Closely Guarded Secret’ was a Sunday Times and New York Times best-seller. The book has now been published in several languages - now in paperback and available as a 3 x CD Talking book – read by him. Since his retirement from Scotland Yard he has entertained audiences across a broad spectrum of venues throughout the UK and abroad, speaking at conferences and after dinner locations. Combining recent and highly relevant first hand experience of security issues he offers credibility and independence on the highly topical subject of security. Now a freelance security consultant he is a regular contributor with the BBC, ITN, Sky News, NBC, CBS, CNN, participating in numerous outside broadcasts and documentaries for BBC – Newsnight, Channel 4 News, Channel 5 News, News 24. Worked exclusively for NBC covering the Royal Wedding – HRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. An occasional writer for The Guardian, The Observer, The Evening Standard.

Specialist Security Training - Live Fire Options

As with all of our live fire programs, this course is held at our live fire facility in Slovakia.

This unique Handgun/Carbine course is the follow-on to Handgun II for the individual who needs to develop safe firearm-handling skills and a solid foundation of basic shooting skills with both the handgun and the carbine. The first day will focus on using the pistol while carrying the carbine and associated equipment. During the remaining four days, each student will learn the fundamentals of carbine marksmanship while maintaining the handgun option. IST Academy instructors will present increasingly difficult tactical drills to develop superior handling skills with both weapons. Students will leave with a good understanding of shooting fundamentals and how to apply them in a tactical situation.

Flights, transfers and accommodation are provided in the price along with a combined 1500 rounds of 9mm (Handgun) and 7.62mm (Carbine) ammo, gun hire and protective equipment.

First Person on Scene Intermediate

The purpose of the First Person on Scene (FPOS) qualifications is to provide immediate life support to the patient pending the arrival of definitive pre-Hospital care. Effective interventions in the following areas have been shown to make a difference to survival outcome, and are reflected in the syllabi:

Airway stabilisation Basic life support Early defibrillation Oxygenation Circulatory support

Clinical endorsement for the FPOS qualifications is by the Royal College of Surgeons Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (Edinburgh). Whilst achievement confirms that individuals have met both the theoretical and practical requirements, this does not imply the ‘license to practice’ - the scope of which will be for the employing organisation to determine. The qualifications and any additional units are valid for a period of 3 years. Periodic re-training and assessment for both the practical skills and supporting knowledge will therefore be required. Assessment of supporting knowledge for the FPOS qualifications will be through test papers provided by Edexcel delivered through accredited centres.

Specialist Security Training - Medical Options

Almost 90% of those who die from combat wounds do so before they arrive at a medical treatment facility. This figure highlights the importance of the trauma care provided on the battlefield by combat medics, corpsmen, PJs, and even the casualties themselves and their fellow combatants.

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care in Combat

J. S Maughon noted in his paper in Military Medicine in 1970 that little had changed in the preceding 100 years. In the interval between the publication of Maughon's paper and the United States’ invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, there was also little progress made. The war years, though, have seen many lifesaving advances in battlefield trauma care. These advances have dramatically increased casualty survival. This is especially true when all members of units – not just medics - are trained in Tactical Emergency Casualty Care in combat (TECCC.)

The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care in Combat (TECCC) course introduces evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield. The TECCC course is designed for operators working in Hostile environments employed to support combat situations or assigned to Private security detail. The course is designed for non-medical personnel and includes first responder skills appropriate for all roles.

The course outlines the AT philosophy while detailing the duties and responsibilities of CATP's at secured facilities or installations around the world. The course discusses AT awareness, terrorist group operations, hostage-taking and survival, terrorist use of weapons of mass destruction, the threat of the active shooter, and the insider threat. The course also explores the anti terrorism plan through examination of physical security considerations, the anti terrorism planning process, and resource management. The course looks at case studies surrounding the bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia and the attack on the USS Cole. Intensive Krav Maga ProgramHand to Hand Combat

Krav Maga Combatives Intensive Boot camp takes place on Spain's Costa Brava,

approximately 125KM from Barcelona and 15KM from the French Border.

This is a truely beautiful part of the world where the Pyrenees meet the

Mediterranean.

The training takes place on one of the many local beaches, on the sand or the

paved areas adjacent. This provides a vital touch of realism to combatives

training; in a real episode of interpersonal violence you will not have the

luxury of 40mm judo mats or the smooth training surface common to the gym

or dojo.

A typical day begins at 07.00 hrs with a road run along the scenic coast

followed by our now "infamous" combat conditioning circuits on the beach -

these are grueling, functional fitness workouts that will push you to your

limits!

Allowing participants to get their breath back, we begin with striking chain

drills on the thai pads, focus mits and kick shields, teaching students how to

utilise full bodyweight when striking an assailant and build up an arsenal of

effective combinations.

We also include many aggression and stress drills that push your cardio and

simulate the combat stress (adrenaline response) experienced during a violent

encounter. Pictured left, two students square up in a three minute bout of

milling, where they are not allowed to defend, only attack one another, forcing

parcipitants to show grit and determination in face of sustained agression.

After a healthy lunch of local organic produce, we continue with escape

combatives or techniques for defending against common attacks, such as

grabs, holds, headlocks, chokes, defence against punches, kicks, knees and

elbows are also drilled with the emphasis being place on turning the defence

to an offence as quickly as possible. Drills against multiple attackers two,

three or more, where some are armed are also undertaken.
