About the Kollel
Kollel Menachem serves as the division of Adult Education of the Yeshivah centre in Melbourne. We aim to provide high-quality Torah learning opportunities to the full spectrum of the Melbourne Jewish Community.
Our program includes weekly classes, feature lecture series, pre-festival programs and regular learning seminars including our annual Summer Learning Program.
We offer classes on a variety of topics including; Talmud, Chassidus, Parsha, basic Jewish literacy, Halocha and more.
At our core is the Kollel, a college of advanced Jewish learning where young Rabbis advance their study of Jewish law after marriage. Our graduates serve as Rabbis and educators across the world.

Rabbi Ari Shishler
Rabbi Ari Shishler is the Rabbi of Chabad of Strathavon, a fast-growing Chabad centre in Sandton, South Africa’s business hub. Rabbi Shishler is the learning director at the central Chabad House of Johannesburg and has taught at the Torah Academy High School for 15 years.
Rabbi Shishler’s weekly classes on Jewish spirituality attract upward of 100 attendees.
He also lectures on Jewish history, personal growth, Kabbalah and Talmud. He has also lectured in the USA, UK and Israel. A sampling of Rabbi Shishler’s classes is available on Chabad.org.
A passionate teacher, Rabbi Shishler co-hosts weekly radio shows that examines the spiritual perspective on current events on Johannesburg’s Jewish radio station, ChaiFM. He has appeared many times as a radio guest on South Africa’s popular 702 and SAFM stations as well as on a wide range of TV documentaries on Judaism.
Rabbi Shishler writes a regular column in South Africa’s monthly Jewish Life Magazine and his articles have appeared on Chabad.org and in the Jewish Report, Jewish Observer and Nshei Chabad publications. Rabbi Ari Shishler is married to Naomi and they are blessed with seven beautiful children.
Rabbi Yonason Johnson
Rabbi Yonason Johnson serves as the dean of Kollel Menachem and the Director of Adult Education of the Yeshivah Centre in Melbourne. Having studied in Yeshivos in Israel and Australia, Rabbi Johnson has been a Torah teacher and lecturer in Adult Education for nearly 10 years.
He is a gifted orator who has the ability of expressing deep concepts into simple language and imparting to his audiences a thought-provoking and uplifting message. His lectures attract large crowds from the spectrum of the Melbourne Jewish community, from the advanced student to the beginner.
Rabbi Johnson specialises in weaving a kaleidoscope of Torah sources; Midrash, Gemora, Chumash with meforshim, Kabbalah and Chassidus to develop ideas and explore their depth. His manner of delivery and use of PowerPoint visual presentations makes for a stimulating learning experience.
Rabbi Avrohom Jacks
There are not many speakers who can artfully blend a dynamic, humorous and inspirational style with deep, insightful substance.
Rabbi Avrohom Jacks is one of these rare presenters.
Rabbi Jacks studied in South Africa, Israel and Canada and has served as a pulpit Rabbi for 15 years.
Rabbi Yaakov Glasman
Rabbi Yaakov Glasman is the Senior Rabbi of St Kilda Hebrew Congregation.
He served as the President of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria from 2009 until 2012 and remains a senior member of its Executive Committee.
He is a highly sought after speaker both in the Jewish and wider community and delivers popular fortnightly lectures at his Shule on a range of topical and controversial issues.
Rabbi Chaim Cowen
Rabbi Cowen is currently working as a teacher at Yesodei Hatorah College in Elwood, Rabbi Cowen is also studying the Juris Doctorate (JD) course at Monash University with the intention of merging the study of Law with his rabbinical interests.
