What is a Lexile? Lexiles can range from approximately 200 to 2000.
A Lexile is the level of book that a student can read with 75%
comprehension.
Which book should my child read? Choose books with a Lexile from 100 below to 50 above their
score. For example, if my second grader reads at 330L, he should
pick a book with a Lexile range of 230L-380L. *Lexile is a registered trademark of Metametrics, Inc.
Where can I find this score?
On the Scholastic Reading Inventory (2nd, 4th, 7th grade reports will
be mailed home with report cards).
On the CRCT for students entering Grades 4-8. See example below.
2012-2013 Lexile Gateway Requirements
2nd grade—255 Lexile
4th grade —590 Lexile
7th grade — 830 Lexile
More information on Lexiles can be found on the Metametrics Webpage:
www.Lexiles.com or
on the “Find-A-Book, Georgia” page of
the Georgia Department of Education: http:\\georgia.lexile.com
