“Acting on Revolution” Five short student-written plays
After each performance the actors will take questions. What would you like to know about their process or learning? Ask away!
List of Plays Women of the Revolution:
Making Modern Feminism Possible Brianne Johnson, Cami Kai, Elena Cordova, Kendall Murphy
“Our written histories deny women the appropriate representation for a group which makes up more than half of the population. Underrepresentation of women is an issue that is manifested today extending from Congress to the media. By sharing the stories of these daring women, it is our wish to further educate our audience of the female hands (which have only been allowed a minuscule amount of words in our written past) to tell their tale.”
The Sons of Liberty: A Legacy of Activism
Kailee Mitsuyasu, Leo Turetsky, Mahina Smith, Payton Boyd
“The Boston Massacre Trials are the first example of right to due process in action; that is, that the government shall not “deprive citizens of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.”From the chaos of a rebellion arose strict order- honorable rules and established procedures to protect the American people.”
Question and Answer
Boston Massacre Trials: A Legacy of Right to Due Process
Aaron Ginoza, Hooper LeBlanc, Justin Alo-Ma’ae, Kianna Wilford, Shane Wong
“The Sons of Liberty was an organized group that swore secrecy during the American Revolution. By establishing and signing the Declaration of Independence, alerting the patriots of the incoming British, and influencing people to join the patriot’s side, they became the main reason for the patriots’ victory against the British. They left a legacy of activism that still lives on till this day.”
Paine and Jefferson: A Legacy of Revolutionary Writers
Cameron Taylor, Kaya McTigue, Patrick Rhee
“Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson were the definition of leaders. They led an entire nation by their use of powerful words…motivating many to stand up and fight for democracy.”
Generals of the Revolutionary War
Aaron Nagao, Jordan Topping, Luke Savage, Matthew Batchelder
“George Washington is famous for his raid on the enemy encampment on Christmas Day. Benedict Arnold is famous for being a turncoat but he also devised long-range combat on the battlefield. Nathaniel Greene is famous for spearheading the tactic of “divide and conquer.” Finally, Nathan Hale is known as one of America’s first spies. Our play encompasses their dedication and strength to lead men against a superior force and win.”
