ABOUTBOGOR Bogor lies in the province of West

Java, Indonesia, which is a silent witness tothe history of Tarumanegara, the oldestrecorded kingdom in Western Java, on 5th

century. Its location which is near theCapital of Indonesia-Jakarta make it astrategic region for economy growth anddevelopment. Bogor is also known as“Buitenzorg” in the Dutch colonial erawhich means “no worries” or “safe andsound”. Since 19th century, Bogor is knownas the central agency and research foragricultural and biological. One of them isBogor Agricultural University which is nowcalled IPB University. In 2016, Bogor hasbeen chosen as the most loveable city inthe WWF’s global “We Love Cities”campaign.

There are many tourist attractionsavailable in Bogor ranging from nature tohistoric sights that can be visited, such asBogor Botanical Garden, a tourism spotwhich has 1500 species of trees andplants. There is also Bogor Palace, one ofthe presidential place in Indonesia withdeer surrounding the palace.

Bogor is also famous for its uniqueculinary, such as Asinan Bogor (pickledvegetable dish), Togr Goreng (a dish oflontong, egg noodles, friend tofu, andboiled bean sprouts with peanut saucetopping), Bolu Talas (Taro Cake) and manyothers. Some of places that becomeculinary center of Bogor are TamanKencana, and Surya Kencana.

September 1963 on the form of visionarythinking from the leader of nation andthose who care about the agriculturalfield. Thus, IPB University was establishedas a world-class university withcompetence in the field of agriculture,bioscience, and various related fields. Thiswas intended for strengthening of foodsecurity, bioenergy, job creation, povertyalleviation, and preserving of theenvironment. IPB University is known astrendsetter of agricultural development na broad sense, indicated by theinvolvement of the nation’s leaders in itsdevelopment.

Vision of IPB University is to become aresearch-based university and leading ininnovation for national independencetowards a techno-social entrepreneurialuniversity that excels at the global level inagriculture, marine, tropical biosciences.One of out mission is to organizing highereducation by strengthening the researchbase of the university to produce superiortechno-sociopreneur graduates, havenoble character based on faith and pietyto God, high nationalism, professionalcompetence, millennium soft skills,leadership, globally insightful and becomea trend setter of innovation and change.

BACKGROUNDIPB University is one of the fast growing universities in Indonesia. Department ofManagement was established in 2000 as a part of Faculty of Economics andManagement (FEM), IPB University to respond the growing demand of managementcompetences in almost every sector of life. Department of Management of IPBUniversity is one of reputable program which has started to focus its learning, researchand other academic activities on the issues of Small Medium Enterprises (SME).

The Department of Management has a good track record in conducted 1st summercourse in 2017 entitled "Management of Small and Medium Enterprises of Indonesia(MISSME)". At that time Department of Management succeeded in bringing 11 students,in cooperation with four lecturers from universities, namely Universiti Putra Malaysia,University of Hannover, and the University of Australia. Based on the success story of asummer course 2017, Department of Management wanted to initiate continueing thisprogram the 2nd summer course with the theme "Sustainable agrifood Management in.Indonesia (SAMI 2018). This course aimed to provide better understanding onsustainable agrifood management. Indonesia will be an interesting lesson learnt wherethe food demand is huge and growing up while food supply is confronted to manychallenges, from climate changes, agricultural land conversion to disrupting newtechnologies specifically in revolution 4.0 era. And now, Department of Managementare conducting the third Summer Course : "Sustainable agrifood Management inIndonesia (SAMI 2019) : From Traditional to Digital”.

COURSE INTRODUCTION

SAMI 2019, summer course which isdesigned as 10 days sustainable agrifoodmanagement course with input from IPBUniversity experts in collaboration withinternational universities and multinationalfood companies. Relevant issues in thefield of sustainable agrifood managementwill be presented and discussed in theplenary presentations. Furthermore itgives participants the opportunity topractice team work in a sustainableagrifood management context.

This course has a multidisciplinaryapproach that integrates agricultural,food tech. and management science in asystematic manner. This approach allowsus to comprehensively learn integratedagifood value chain

from upstream to downstream and fromtraditional mechanism and road to digitaltransformation in agricultural sector. It willbe very beneficial for anyone who areinterested to: (a) better understandagrifood management in tropical anddeveloping countries from traditional androad to digital platform mechanism, (b)enrich and explore internationalexperiences, and (c) build global networksamong participants across differentcountries. Participants will have theopportunity to meet professionals fromdifferent fields. They will provide in-depthanalysis on sustainable agrifoodmanagement topics as well as on furthercareer opportunities in the field.

APPLICANTS

The Target of SAMI Summer Course 2019participants consists of academics, researchers,students and graduate students, policy makers,business and NGOs. Participants will learn fromlecture, discussion, games simulation, field trip, andour research findings.

The Applicants are categorizes into two groups :

Institutional Applicants

1. One group consist of at least 5 persons

2. The applications are coordinated by university/International Relations office/Faculty/ Department/Unit/Etc of the Home country

Individual Applicants

1. The applicants can apply by themselves as individual applicants

2. The participants of individual applicants are limited to 25 participants.

LEARNINGOUTCOME

After following this summer course, participants are expected to:

1. Able to understand and explain sustainable agrifoodmanagement concepts and applications from upstream to downstream, from traditional and road to digital platform mechanism

2. Able to identify and analyze potential and challenges of agrifood management in Indonesia through various case studies

3. Able to communicate ideas on applying sustainable agrifoodmanagement practices in the implementation of halal business cases

4. To have critical and creative thinking in problem solving on agrifood management

5. Able to collaborate on multicultural platform and build global network on agrifood management
