2019 SEARCH Symposium on Justice Information Technology, Policy and Research | 1

WELCOME Welcome to the 2019 SEARCH Symposium on Justice

Information Technology, Policy and Research. SEARCH

is proud to offer this national forum so participants can

explore the most critical contemporary issues in justice

information management and operations that confront

and challenge key decision-makers and justice

professionals at all levels.

New and emerging technologies play a crucial role in

justice operations—enabling more sophisticated crime,

enhancing investigative capabilities, and expanding

research and information sharing. The 2019 SEARCH

Symposium will explore the impact and role of

technology, legal doctrine, policy initiatives, and

research findings and opportunities in such areas as

facial recognition, criminal justice reform and reentry,

information security, commercial background checks,

record sealing and expungement practices, crime

analysis, measuring risk and redemption—and more.

With the 2019 Symposium, SEARCH offers keynote

addresses from national thought leaders, intensive

workshops across three complementary tracks—

Technology, Policy, and Research—and opportunities

for networking, education, and solutions. SEARCH is

proud to commemorate our 50th anniversary this year,

and the 2019 Symposium continues our long-standing

practice of partnering with leading experts, industry

thought leaders, researchers, practitioners, technical

developers and justice and public safety professionals

to learn, to engage, and to effect change.
