Dear Friends: We are very excited to bring this new and dynamic “scholar in residence” educational program to our community. Special thanks is due to our dedicated and hard-working adult education chair, Dr. Hilel Frankenthal, and our board president, Jonty Felsher, together with many people who shared with us their vision and creativity. Together we have put together a remarkable and diverse group of scholars and educators to help us grow and inspire us this year. Our program includes speakers from diverse areas of Jewish thought including science and medicine, Jewish history, Bible studies, communal leadership and Jewish education. Each of our scholars enjoys recognized and respected stature in their respective fields. They each have something unique to offer. And we are honored to host them in our community There are three different terms often used to describe the Jewish community, tzibbur, kehilla and eidah. I believe each has a unique emphasis, based on the famous Mishnah in Ethics of our Fathers describing the three pillars of Jewish life. A community that prays together is a tzibbur. A community that gathers to offer kindness and show chessed to one another is a kehilla. A community that studies Torah together is called an eidah because the study of Torah takes us back to the eidut we received at Sinai. We chose the phrase “Sinai Scholars” to reflect this message that studying Torah takes us back to the eidut of receiving the Torah at Sinai. But each of these upcoming weekends will include the community coming together to daven as a tzibbur, to share meals and comradery as a kehilla, and learn together as an eidah. Now we need your help. To enable us to embark on this ambitious program we need the community to support our adult education fund, to sponsor weekends at a Keter Torah level, or support our program at any level you are able. On the back page you will find opportunities to support this inspiring project. Please help us make sure we can continue to bring this caliber of program to our Young Israel community in future years as well. Thank you Sincerely,Rabbi ShulmanRabbi - Young Israel of St. Louis
