Welcome Welcome to Doha - Qatar, home of the 11th European, Mediterranean and Middle Easter Conference on Information Systems (EMCIS2014). It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 11th EMCIS 2014 hosted by the Brunel University London (United Kingdom), Qatar University (UK), and University of Piraeus (Greece). EMCIS - is an annual research event addressing the Information Systems (IS) discipline with regional as well as global perspective. Entering its 11th year, EMCIS has successfully helped bringing together researchers from around the world in a friendly atmosphere conducted to free exchange of innovative ideas. EMCIS was founded by Brunel University research Group ISEing. A number of respected collaborations were made with different local universities across the destinations chosen each year and EMCIS still proves to attract many further partnerships. Keynote Speakers DAY 1 - Title of Talk: Evolving Issues in ICT, Smart Cities and Human Resources Prof. Thomas Andersson is a Senior Advisor in the Sultanate of Oman on issues of research, innovation and higher education. He is currently involved in projects linking Big Data, Smart Cities and trusted e-services to innovation and strengthened user control in digital communication, in collaboration with partners in the Middle East, Europe and Asia. He is responsible coordinator for GINI (Global Identity Networking of Individuals), a support action of the European Commission over the past years and partner in the EU-funded Inconet-GCC project which aims at collaboration between the GCC countries and the EU in capacity building on research and innovation, as well as in SI-Drive which addresses social innovation.
Among other assignments he is Chairman of IKED, Intentac and IUET, which is the Swedish partner institute of the World Economic Forum. Previously he was the Vice Chancellor of Jo nko ping University, Assistant Under-Secretary and responsible for the Structural Policies Secretariat of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Sweden, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry, the OECD, Paris, Visiting Scholar at the Bank of Japan, Tokyo, and Visiting Fellow at Harvard University, Cambridge, M.A.
DAY 2 - Title of Talk: Comparative Global Strategies for m-Government Mr. Paul Waller is a Visiting Research Fellow at Brunel University, London, where he pursues research in e-Government, e-Participation, and ICT-enabled innovation. Formerly he was a UK Cabinet Office senior civil servant at the centre of policy and strategy development and delivery in e-Government. He led e-Government work for the UK Presidency of the EU, including the development of European policy, and hosting the Manchester ‘Transforming Public Services’ ministerial conference. He led government work on e-Democracy. Previously he developed and directed implementation of the Government’s ICT Capability Strategy. He has presented on innovation, e-Government, e-Inclusion and e-Democracy at numerous international conferences.
