The International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) is pleased to announce the 6th annual Gobeshona Conference to be held at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), Dhaka from;

20th January 2020 to 24th January 2020

The Gobeshona conference is an annual international conference on knowledge dissemination focusing on research practices that attract academics, practitioners, policy makers and delegates who are involved in work related to climate change and development. We are proud to announce that our journey has created relationships with over 40 partners that include Development Partners, Academic Institutions, NGOs and INGOs to (name a few).

Over the years, the conference has served as a platform for discussions on the latest climate changeresearch and knowledge (particularly on Bangladesh and other LDCs). This year our theme ‘Research into Action’ looks into how we can convert climate change research and knowledge into actionable outcomes and meaningful policies.

As an ongoing commitment towards achieving sustainable goals, Gobeshona has partnered with Shishu Polli Plus, to use hand-made, recycled paper for conference literature and marketing materials, and Bangladesh Petrochemical Company Limited (BPCL) to recycle all plastic bottles that will be used in the duration of the conference.

Shishu Polli Plus is a purpose built “CHILDREN’S VILLAGE” with the aim to provide a long term rehabilitation

service to underprivileged children and their mothers, neglected due to poverty, social stigma, trauma, etc. It

was founded in 1989 with the mandate to work for the best interest of children with their mothers. As a

grassroots organisation, we respond to the local needs and over the years have developed programmes that

include caring, training, counselling and community fostering for the vulnerable children and traumatised

mothers. At present, approximately of 550 mothers and children are living in the village and are following an

agreed rehabilitation programme for up to three years. As well as receiving literacy and vocational training and

other educational opportunities, the mothers work for SPP and earn a small allowance. The mothers receive a

significant sum of money from SPP’s compulsory saving scheme after completing their three years programme.

SPP also has a number of disabled children who require special care and are staying with us for the rest of their

lives. The complex is designed as a village atmosphere.

Bangladesh Petrochemical Company Limited (BPCL) has established itself as the first post-consumer Bottle to

Bottle PET recycling plant in Bangladesh. Its operations epitomise the “recover and recycle” business model in

which post-consumer PET bottles are revived for new use. Starting its operations in July 2012, BPCL has set up a

plant that is capable of producing 10,500 metric tons (MT) of recycled PET resin per year using used PET bottles

as raw materials. We are also a company with an environmental commitment to lessen greenhouse emission

and a social commitment to improve the life of waste-pickers. BPCL’s goal is to improve the environment,

eradicate child labor and bring fairness in the supply chain of recycling.
