October 2013 marked a historic milestone in the Aleethia Foundaon’s legacy. It has been ten years since the first “Friday Night Dinner” was held. What started out as a steak dinner for two soldiers in October 2003 has grown into a commitment to honor and support wounded/injured/ill service mem- bers and their families during their recovery at Walter Reed Naonal Military Medical Center at a weekly “Friday Night Dinner.” Since 2003, over 45,000 meals have been provided to wounded/ injured/ill service members and their families. The dinners are about recovery, fellowship and com- munity as much as they are about food. Through the generosity of our donors, the Aleethia Foundaon hosted a special reunion dinner which included previously injured veterans, who over the past years have benefited immensely from the dinners and have since reintegrated into civilian life and the current injured service members who are going through the healing process at Walter Reed Naonal Military Medical Center. Over 375 ser- vice members and their families, military medical staff, special guests and the Aleethia Foundaon volunteers were part of an amazing evening. A SPECIAL thank you to all who made this Reunion a reality! Thank You for Supporting Aleethia’s Programs…. Executive Director’s Message ...by Hal Koster Without your support, the Aleethia Foundaon would not have been able to provide over 45,000 meals served to wounded/injured/ill service members and their families who have parcipated in Aleethia’s “Friday Night Dinners” since October 2003. Due to an increase in requests for help with those basic needs that official regulaons and budgets cannot cover, the need for non-profits to assist wounded/injured/ill service members and family mem- bers has dramacally increased. For many service members, it will be a long road as they recover from injuries suffered while serving our country. Aleethia connues responding to the many requests and in 2013, Aleethia provided over $61,000 for emergency financial aid, travel and hotel expenses, car repairs, family aid, clothing, furnishings and more. We do not acvely seek ways to help the troops. When you seek ways to help, you frequently waste precious donated resources doing things that are marginally helpful to the troops. We have spent most of our resources other than the dinners, by answering the call from the staff at WRNMMC and some VA medical facilies regarding the need of a specific service member. They will tell us what is needed and when. We buy what is needed for a specific service member. Nothing more...and noth- ing less. By doing it that way, we know the need exists and we know the person in need is a service member. Through the use of assisve technology, service members who have been diagnosed with traumac brain injury or psychological health condions are able to maintain or increase independence in their everyday lives. Over the past three years, your connuous generosity has enabled Aleethia to provide over $72,000 for assisve technology items. WRNMMC is starng to focus more on TBI and PTS - so this need is GROWING! Together we connue to make a difference for the wounded/injured/ill service members recovering at WRNMMC. Executive Director’s Message ...by Hal Koster

Without your support, the Aleethia Foundation would not have been able to provide over 45,000 meals served to wounded/injured/ill service members and their families who have participated in Aleethia’s “Friday Night Dinners” since October 2003. Due to an increase in requests for help with those basic needs that official regulations and budgets cannot cover, the need for non-profits to assist wounded/injured/ill service members and family mem-bers has dramatically increased. For many service members, it will be a long road as they recover from injuries suffered while serving our country. Aleethia continues responding to the many requests and in 2013, Aleethia provided over $61,000 for emergency financial aid, travel and hotel expenses, car repairs, family aid, clothing, furnishings and more. We do not actively seek ways to help the troops. When you seek ways to help, you frequently waste precious donated resources doing things that are marginally helpful to the troops. We have spent most of our resources other than the dinners, by answering the call from the staff at WRNMMC and some VA medical facilities regarding the need of a specific service member. They will tell us what is needed and when. We buy what is needed for a specific service member. Nothing more...and noth-ing less. By doing it that way, we know the need exists and we know the person in need is a service member. Thanks to your kind donations we have not had to spend time on fundraising events or advertising to raise money. Our volunteers can focus on helping troops and their families.
