The exhibition features thirty years of Abeles' artistic investigation related to the environment and her innovative method of producing images on various surfaces made solely by particulate matter from air pollution. Smog Collectors examines decades of scientific data collected by the artist and its unexpected visual presentation that prompts the viewer to reconsider the air we breathe.

ACTIVATE! 2020 (Arts Week 2020) One-night exhibition Thursday, April 9, 5-9 PM Location: Visual Arts Courtyard and Galleries

ACTIVATE! 2020 is a one-night presentation of multiple installations and exhibitions situated in the Visual Arts courtyard and galleries (Begovich, Duff, Exit and Freedman). Works on view are produced by CSUF students and represent the various course disciplines offered in the Visual Arts. Participating areas include: Art Education, Ceramics, Creative Photography + Experimental Media, Jewelry + Metals, Drawing & Painting, Entertainment Art/Animation, Exhibition Design, Foundations, Glass, Graphic & Interactive Design, and Sculpture. ACTIVATE! 2020 is presented as part of Arts Week 2020, and is organized by the College of the Arts and Nicholas & Lee Begovich Gallery, and in partnership with Arts Interclub Council (AICC).

In Conversation is a new live series connecting artists, scholars and community figures for lively discussions on art, culture and society. Each series is accompanied by a light brunch fare.

ART POPS: Kim Abeles - Workshop Saturday, April 18, 2-4 PM Location: VA-107

Kim Abeles leads a workshop for participants to make their own smog plate. (Please arrive at 2PM to participate in the workshop). Space is limited.

Art+Politics is an annual conference that takes place at alternating college or university locations in southern California. It began as a platform for community college students to present scholarly research papers centered around visual culture. Initiated in 2016 by alumna, Angela Lessing (Art History, ’17), past conference locations include Cypress College, CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Fullerton, and UC Riverside. This year, Art+Politics returns to CSU Fullerton with new participants from community colleges in the region, and for the first time, select undergraduates from CSU Fullerton’s Visual Arts Department will present. Hosted by the College of the Arts, Department of Visual Arts, Nicholas & Lee Begovich Gallery and the Art History Program.

ART POPS: Francisco Goya, Los Caprichos Thursday, May 14, 12-1 PM Location: VA-107

ART POPS is a series of “pop-up” programming ranging from demos, events, and informative talks. This season, get a behind-the-scenes look into the gallery’s collection of prints by Spanish artist, Francisco Goya. Visual Resource Specialist, Debra Winters will lead a discussion on Goya’s Los Caprichos, a series of prints created in the 18th century that critiqued Spain’s culture and humanity.
