Operations – Statistics #1


Increase of incidents due to MACS, M1 and EMIR. For MACS and

M1 there have been serious breakdowns. MACS suffered two

catastrophic failures: The breakage of the cable rotator due to a

blocked hose, and the breakage of the Azimuth motor due to

interference from a screw in the permanent magnets.



Technical losses: Accumulated average (March. 1st, 2021 – August 15st) 7,89 %



Optical Quality of the Telescope: Global Reflectivity (650nm – M1·M2·M3) > 62,0 %

Remplacing Primary Mirror Segments: (Segments Changed March. 2021 – Sep. 2021) 14 units (18 in 2017)

Maintenance


▪ PRIMARY MIRROR (M1):▪ Water leak in manifold for HiPERCAM affects M1 surface. Resolved.

▪ ACQUISITION AND GUIDANCE (AG):▪ Problems in Nasmyth A and NB (simultaneously). Resolved.

▪ HYDROSTATIC BEARING SYSTEM:▪ Control firmware update. Monitoring Improvements.

▪ MAIN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:▪ Improvements and obsolescence correction (Main Switch & UPS

networks upgrades - ongoing).

▪ OTHERS:▪ Maintenance of Dome Shutters (Summer).

▪ Heavy maintenance of main cooling water pumps.

▪ Big (10 years) maintenance of lift work platforms.

▪ MACS:▪ Two critical failures at Azimuth. Recovered. Collateral: Occasional oscillations under study.

Maintenance – Instruments


OSIRIS: The instrument has behaved well.

• Several tests for MAAT just before retirement.

• It has been removed from the telescope.

• Several maintenance operations are planned, taking advantage

of the shutdown (Cryostat, cooling, etc.).

HiPERCAM: Reintegrated in May. Dismantling today.

• A cool head was repaired. Successful operation.

• Dismantling -> Starts the Half Moon Platform integration.

EMIR: Is operative.

• Problems in the DAS and the detector. Addressed but not solved.

• Problems in a bar (MOS Slit). Shortcut to solve it.

MEGARA: Is operative (IFU)

• Successfully replaced the pseudo-slit.

• Cryogenic cycling carried out correctly.

Projects and GOI Activities


ICTS:▪ M1: Received Edge Sensor Processors (ACP). Concluding work on nodal boxes.

▪ ISS: (Interlock & Safety System): Delays due to factory shutdowns (automations).

▪ Instalación Conectada (Industrial IoT for enviromental data): On going.

MECON:▪ Scientific Archive and Backup: In installation and configuration.

▪ Network Security and Access Control: In production. Configuration 1.0.

▪ HCI System & New Wi-Fi: Preparing for tender.

▪ Upgrade Coating Chamber: Tender awarded (VTD)

▪ Air Compressors: In production. Completed.

OTHERS:▪ Solar Plant: Tender awarded (ELECNOR)

▪ UPS (Safety Electricity): Tender awarded (ELECNOR).

▪ Electric Mobility 2.0: Under Tender.

▪ New Storage Hall (sea level): In negotiations (near to Garafía Town Hall).

▪ Helium for Frida and Miradas: Preparing hose outbaking. Next hoses reception.

▪ Civil works reforms in GTC: Starting...
